If my grandma came back for a visit..💜

"Helloooo.., helloooooooo, anybody in there? Hellllooooo???
I've got mint tea & pepper/cheese sandwiches for you..."

(Gazing inside for movement, while she straightens her falling stockings)

"Come out, come out!" the children chant. "Come & play!" They rap on my door. They tap on my window. Day & night, their nails rasp across glass.

My curtain is closed, my candle snuffed. My mangled tail curls around me, pointed end gone.

"Next time," they whisper, "We'll take your horns." #hbp135

"My grandmother's house is no longer there. A shame, really, as it was one of those houses built during the later years of the Spanish colonial period. The Japanese occupied it during WW2, and it became haunted since. 'Something' would knock on the windows, yet no one was there."

Still new to poetry, but I thought I'd have a go. 😅 I'm using the text prompt: "A knock on the window."

“Go away,” I said again, but the relentless knocking at the window persisted. I tried to hold the intruder’s gaze, but its beady, unblinking eyes made it impossible to keep contact for long. “Just go away, please,” I pleaded, but the figure only replied, “Nevermore.” #hbp135

There's a friendly face
Appearing in the window
And the stranger smiles

Lost
In self
My wineglass
Slips from my hand
Self-medication
Shelves the façade for now
I walk familiar dreamscapes
You, Me, and #The_Story_of_Us
Startled awake to taps on glass panes
Naught but wind in willows, mourning with me

Startled, he came to from a heavy doze in his chair. Unaware of what had awoken him, he drifted back to sleep. Hours (or was it minutes) later he was again startled awake. He looked to his right, out the window and there he saw what it was…a damn cardinal fighting itself in the window.

A knock on the window
A quiet invitation to go play outside
But I am too far below
And the skylight too high

I wish I could play
But here I have to stay
Down on the ground
Given games of my own

They move to move on
In the light blue grey
And we say our unspoken farewell
Never more to play

Jen stood at the window, looking at the * their* front yard of *their* home and her husband had just told her through * their* window, that she’s beautiful. In her messiest moment, in *their* home.
She wiped tears from her eyes and got back to prettying up *their* living room.

A nice, well deserved weekend in Atlantic City. Take the elevator up to the 19th floor, unpack our bags and open the Dorito's, waiting for the inevitable knock on the window. Once it comes, the feeding frenzy begins.

Somewhere between the Preglan V and Bomont IV, there's a series of knocks at a porthole window.
Kurt Kerf2: What sort of #rigamarole is this?
KNOCK KNOCK
K2, rushes to window: We're in deep space, who the fuck's out there?
HA HA HA! GOTCHA!
K2: Really need to fix the ship's AI...

When she comes to call, adventure awaits. Tracing old stone's way, cuddled by green moss, we follow the Old Mill path. Our tales are soaked up by trees, they spread through roots, across the wold—under wildflower meadows and bramble knolls. Each day a knock on the window sets my heart free. #hbp135

A knock on the window

On the couch, he awoke from a fitful slumber. In his mind something nagged. A dream of a giant glass pane. What did it mean?
The grandfather clock chimed the hour and as soon as it stopped, there was a knock on the window.

she doesn't come around
as often as i'd like
—tapping on my window
she flaunts her fire-flaught
& whispers her intentions
—persistent rapping growing
then she growls my sobriquet
& i approach the glass
—knocking teasing mania
we reflect upon each other
& take pleasure as we go

So soft, the shiest of sounds, like a triangle in the hands of a child in a school band.
I lift the curtain. She's there, pecking at the pane.
Our eyes meet, mine surprised, hers wary yet resolute.
"You really have to look for food the old fashioned way" I say, putting seeds in the feeder.

A knock on the window—frost-feathered, hesitant. 3 taps like fallen acorns. Outside, moonlight silvers bare branches, casting skeletal shadows across snow. I pause, breath held, teacup suspended. The knocking comes again—hollow, desperate. When I part the curtains, only night stares back.

Too tired to get any further from him, Jess found a half-empty parking area and curled up on the back seat. When she woke, the car park was dark and deserted. Sensing footsteps, she threw herself down on the seat under a coat, and held her breath. Then it came. A knock on the window.

"No. Mom and Dad don't have a lot of money these days."
"But don't your parents own the only glass company in town?"
"Yes, but business has been slow."

"Don’t you get smart with me, mister."
"Sorry. For real this time."
"Well… okay. But you still owe me a new window. How are you going to pay for it?"
"Don’t your parents have insurance?"
"Yes, they do. Can't you borrow some cash from your parents?"

"I said a KNOCK on the window, not a ROCK through the window!"
"I was only trying to get your attention."
"Well, you got everyone's attention."
"I said I'm sorry."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did, when I said: 'I said I'm sorry.'"

"Hi, honey!" Tharra's ears perked up when heard that familiar voice. There was a knock on the window and outside was Stella. Stella had changed over the years, he noticed. One was the uniform she wore that was decked out in medals and colorful ropes on her chest and shoulders. #hbp135

A knock at the window
last Saturday night
caused me to jump
and gave me a fright
For my house stands alone
in a dense & dark forest
With the knock at the window
came the whisper of Ghost
It came for a visit
this vaporous ghoul
Said no to a cuppa
demanded my soul.
"Piss off."

A knock on the window. When I go and look, I see a squirrel sitting on the window sill, holding a small cup in its hands. When I open and ask if I can help, it answers: "I'm collecting donations for the Squirrel Appreciation Society. Do you have some nuts to spare?"

Dark, stormy night
Waiting for the rain
Tap on the window
Must be a branch
Then, remembering
That tree was cut down
Memory serves
Tap, tap, tap
I don't wanna look
Keep my eyes on
My book
Tap, tap
Louder
Curiosity...you know
Looking out the gap
Hearing myself scream

Mrs. Kitty Wompas, star reporter for the neighborhood news and gossip rag. Tap, tap, tap. No answer at the window where she can clearly see you, she moves to the door. Bang, bang, bang. Still no answer. Ever in quest of her truth of your personal story, she moves next door. “Have you heard…”
