Back from an amazing trip to Chicago where I met the most incredible #Herpetologist!
Dr. Sara Ruane gave us a tour of the Reptiles Alive exhibit, basement archives, specimen collection, and lab at the beautiful @FieldMuseum.
I learned so much for my #PB Bio WIP! Grateful!🐍
His most popular creative work is the poem Ode, which has been read, re-read, quoted, anthologized, and set to music countless times. O’Shaughnessy was also a herpetologist with the British Museum. His studies of amphibians and reptiles led him to discover - and name - six new species.

Cool beans. As a #herpetologist, what this means to me is that there will be a lot of frog, toad and salamander breeding going on. 🤓 🧪
Today the kids and I found more frog eggs on the ground where the pond has dried up. We picked up the stick and put it back in the water. We also saw a lot of salamander eggs as well!

A teeny tiny frog with glistening skin perches on a bright green mint leaf. His adorable forelimbs are resting against a bright red ceramic planter. It is nighttime……… Okay. Honestly. The entire time I was growing up, and well into adulthood, I ACTUALLY THOUGHT the chirping was coming from birds. I was confused as all get out, and would try to track down these alleged birds. But the freakin’ little devils would stop chirping as soon as I got close! It was only when I realized the chirps were coming from some VERY unbird-like areas (under a planter?) that I realized the truth.
I believe this tiny guy is a juvenile Rio Grande Chirping Frog. Any herpetologists out there? They jump so fast and so far, this is the ONLY time I’ve ever been able to photograph one. They sound exactly like birds chirping at night.
