Very well-fed (and still hungry) Hornworm (M. Rustica) that my friend found hopping across the hot pavement. They were placed in a leafy tree after their photoshoot. 😊 I hope they made it!

In focus is a caterpillar on a mostly eaten leaf being held up by a black gloved thumb and finger. The caterpillar is a vibrant green there are white diagonal slashes with small orange and white eye marks along the body. The body is in the shape of a question mark with the top third making the curved part and the lower two thirds making the straight line. The background is sand in a light blue pot and there is another caterpillar on another leaf.
I took in 2 caterpillars some days ago. They were devouring my pepper plants. Just found out that if they eat enough red bell peppers that their poop turns red.
There might be more photos of their life in captivity. Here they are when I rescued my plant.

MOTH UPDATE!!
I emptied out the dirt to get a head count. A lot of the worms seemed like they were just dying but I buried them anyway to see what would happen
A lot of dead ones BUT WE GOT 3 TINY LIVE PUPAE same clutch, same species, they just purged early from pesticide poisoning
