Tendrils of the Undulating Dark As through some whispered reverie From some shadow-laden origins, Ghastly sights wore upon my mind, As I laid in bed, solitary and alone Such, that rest was not found. In these quiet hours, between states Dreaming and conscious, it was That the very shadows in my room Sprang very much alive and danced And my breath was stolen by the sight. Some acted out dramas of the day Others reveal my own darkest desires In their frenzied interactions on my walls And I, paralyzed by fear and curiosity, Must have surely fallen into dreaming then. For the shadows became etched faces Both known, and unknown to me And those faces became aged bodies, And those bodies became diverse, massive crowds And I was lost, and alone, among them.

Redcap of Dunnor Peel by Richard H. Fay Grisly deeds done in days of yore Forever tainted Dunnor Peel. Evil acts performed in years past On guiltless babe and stainless maid Cursed tall tower, damned lordly hall. Behind those walls where murder reigned, Where grim laird once held bloody sway, A borderland haunt prowls the dark. Atop night-blackened battlements, Phantom lights and eldritch murmurs Disturb midnight’s starlit stillness. Iron-shod footsteps stomp across Wooden floors long rotted away. Within that fortress cold and dank, A fiery-eyed dwarf roams the dark. A human caught in Dunnor falls To a pikestaff wickedly thrust Right through his beating mortal heart. The savagely gruesome goblin Re-dyes his faded crimson cap In a pool of freshly spilt blood. With gore-stained hat upon his pate, A murdering fiend stalks the dark. (Originally published in The Scareald, Issue No. 2, October 2012.)
Today's Goblin Week post — my dark poem "Redcap of Dunnor Peel" with my artwork "Peeking Redcap".

A poem I wrote about the disconnect between work, parenthood, and dreams. How they all seem so simple, but so distant. Enjoy.

Murder in the Rain By Richard H. Fay Rain falls. Rivulets flow down This lonely dark lane. Blood drips From my gore-stained axe, Reddening the stream. Streaks mar Your once ruddy cheeks Now turned ghastly pale. Deed done, I slowly tromp on As the rain still falls.
Added my new dark poem "Murder in the Rain" to a digital manipulation of an image of drops of rain by sourabhkrishna806 obtained from Pixabay. Image I used is free for use under the Pixabay Content License.
