Capturing the Witch Head Nebula has been quite a journey. I’ve been shooting it for the past 2 months. I think I’ve actually trashed more exposures than I’ve saved but I still ended up with 200+ exposures at 5 minutes each.

IC 2118 The Witch Head Nebula - phone enhanced image.
IC 2118 The Witch Head Nebula - telescope processed image.
IC 2118 The Witch Head Nebula - unprocessed image.
Last image for the s50 for this morning. Tried to get #IC2118 #TheWitchHeadNebula one more time. First image used as much auto-enhancement my phone can do, followed by the telescope processed image with the unprocessed image as well. I think this is as good […]

IC 2118 The Witch Head Nebula - telescope processed image with Moon and Sky Light Filter. A large, faint blue reflection nebula in Eridanus. Its spooky profile, like a witch's head, is illuminated by the bright blue supergiant star, Rigel, in nearby Orion.
IC 2118 The Witch Head Nebula - unprocessed image with Moon and Sky Light Filter. Its ghostly blue glow is a reflection! The nebula's dust grains scatter the powerful blue light from the supergiant star Rigel in Orion, just like our atmosphere makes our sky blue.
Tried again to capture #IC2118 #TheWitchHeadNebula. Will give it one more try tonight. #seestar #S50 #space #astronomy #amateur
IC 2118 The Witch Head Nebula - telescope processed image with Moon and Skylight Filter. It's an extremely faint, blue reflection nebula that resembles a witch's profile. It is illuminated by the intense light of the supergiant star Rigel.
IC 2118 The Witch Head Nebula - unprocessed image with Moon And Skylight Filter. Its shape resembles a witch's profile, and its eerie blue glow is light from the supergiant star Rigel reflecting off cosmic dust.
Last image from the planned observations on the s50. Here is #IC2118 #TheWitchHeadNebula. I think will try again using the onboard LP Filter and not just the Moon and Skylight Filter. #seestar #S50 #space #astronomy #amateur
A Witchy Wonder - my edit of the Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118). Raw image provide by Trevor Jones of #astrobackyard #witchheadnebula #IC2118 #astrophotography
A stunning image of the Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118), a reflection nebula illuminated by the bright star Rigel in the constellation Orion. The nebula's eerie, witch-like shape is strikingly visible against the backdrop of countless stars. The blue hues are a result of dust scattering blue light more efficiently than red, a phenomenon similar to why Earth's sky appears blue. The image showcases the beauty and mystery of deep space.

This is my capture of the Witch Head Nebula #IC2118 taken last winter. This year hasn’t been great for many of us with constant clouds. Icy conditions are also making it dangerous to carry my expensive equipment in/outside on those rare clear nights.

As the winds have calmed, I was able to setup the #RedCat51III and #SeeStarS50 last night for some long overdue imaging. One hour each on #NGC2244 the "Rosette" Nebula and #IC2118 the "Witch Head" Nebula. Also, an hour of the "Horsehead" Nebula through the SeeStar! #SoCal #Astrophotography
🚆🇧🇪 On my way back to Luxembourg 🇱🇺 on the #IC2118 from Bruxelles-Midi. This international train operated by #SNCB is hauled by a #Class13 locomotive with I11-type coaches. The seats in 1st class are comfortable but lack power sockets. There’s also no place to buy food on board!
From last nights session, IC 2118 Witch Head Nebula. This was taken with my Redcat 51. It's made up of a stack of 39 x 300s exposures. I took a total of 60 but there were a LOT of bad frames. Too many things in the sky unfortunately. #astrophotography #ic2118 #witchhead #nebula #photography
