Capturing the Witch Head Nebula has been quite a journey. I’ve been shooting it for the past 2 months. I think I’ve actually trashed more exposures than I’ve saved but I still ended up with 200+ exposures at 5 minutes each.

Long bluish cloud-like formation in space, with 2 bright bluish stars nearby and many more stars in the background.
It’s that time of year again! One of the spookiest views in the night sky is the Witch Head nebula. The #WitchHeadnebula is located near Orion’s brightest star, Rigel. But Rigel is just outside the image above, so the witch gets all the attention. 🧙♀️🌌🔭

A Witchy Wonder - my edit of the Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118). Raw image provide by Trevor Jones of #astrobackyard #witchheadnebula #IC2118 #astrophotography
A stunning image of the Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118), a reflection nebula illuminated by the bright star Rigel in the constellation Orion. The nebula's eerie, witch-like shape is strikingly visible against the backdrop of countless stars. The blue hues are a result of dust scattering blue light more efficiently than red, a phenomenon similar to why Earth's sky appears blue. The image showcases the beauty and mystery of deep space.
