This is something that I will change for myself, with my pile of James Kelman books growing on the shelf. I'm eager to read more and seeing him today has only reinforced to me James Kelman's importance within Scottish literature and beyond.

I always loved this book about tough guy Rab Hines & his inability to act upon what matters most. Or, as Kelman puts it: "the possibility of things":

"All had been there for the grabbing. He had let himself down. He had never tried! Why had he never tried!"
