“Freedom Jazz Dance” was recorded by Eddie Harris on this date (or Aug 9) in 1965. One of my favorite Ron Carter bass lines, and check out the bass drum pedal squeak in Billy Higgins’ sound. I love this track. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsjy

Album cover for Shorty Rogers’ “Short Stops”. A painting of a side view of Shorty playing trumpet, side view with a blue background.
Another cool Shorty Rogers collection. This one features a phenomenal group of LA cats.

Remarkably uplifting album of mid-50s takes by BeBop legend (and apparent Monk protege, something I just learned). Cover artist David Stone Martin seemed to portray' Powell's known mental challenges in fairly heavy drawings. Found this minty 1981 Japanese reissue at the flea market for a fiver. I'd like to find a pre-Verve label Norgran Records original (same art, in yellow).
