Happy 97th birthday to #FazlurRahmanKhan. The man who designed the #SearsTower and the #JohnHancockCenter in #Chicago & yes, I said Sears Tower and John Hancock Center, not those stupid new names each building got.

This image is the cover of a United Airlines timetable booklet titled Our Friendly Times, dated May 7, 1984, Volume 3. The top portion features the classic 1970s–1980s United Airlines logo in red, white, and blue above a horizontal band of orange, red, and blue stripes. At upper right is a badge indicating United Airlines as the “Official Airline of the 1984 Olympic Games,” with the Olympic rings and a stylized aircraft emblem.

The lower portion of the cover displays a nighttime photograph of The Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Illinois. The view looks south along North Michigan Avenue, showing a canyon of illuminated high-rise buildings. Prominently visible at center is the John Hancock Center with its twin antennas rising into the dark blue evening sky. To the right stands the Tribune Tower, its neo-Gothic crown lit dramatically in warm golden light. On the left, a brightly illuminated white building contrasts with darker glass-and-steel office towers nearby. Below, traffic headlights and taillights form streams of white and red along the avenue, emphasizing the bustling nighttime city scene.

At the bottom of the cover, the caption reads: “The Magnificent Mile, Chicago.”

Great photo, beautifully composed!

I had the privilege of working in this building for a while. I was given a parking space which was accessed by driving up that spiral ramp. #JohnHancockCenter #Chicago designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) and completed in 1969.
