Results of pre-bisque drying. Lovely dry pots. Overnight programme 65°C/hr to 85° hold 4 hours. Total power used 1.1kWh!!! Cost 8.8pence!! And no fear of pots exploding in bisque firing.

Stacking the small kiln to dry out greenware. Drying programme: 65°C/hr to 85°C then hold for 4 hours. I do this overnight to make most efficient use of the national grid. Night rate for electricity is 1/4 of day time rate, so also much cheaper.

Pre-heating greenware to ensure it is dry enough to bisque fire. The weather has been cold and damp for so long, I can't be sure work will be dry. Damp pots can explode if the bisque firing progresses too quickly and water vapour can't escape.

Iron Lustre over Honey Flux on Top of Cobalt This piece is fired twice. The first firing (after bisk) was a double-dip Cobalt Blue. The second firing was a single Honey Flux dip with brush-applied Iron Lustre on the edges of the plate.

I do love that before and after of a colorful kiln firing. I love how glazes lie to you. Before, they all look pastel, and light. But after firing? SO VIBRANT; MUCH COLOR. Love, love, love it.
