Seitenansicht eines Kleinen Leuchtkäfers (Phosphaenus hemipterus) auf einem grünen Blatt. Das Insekt zeigt seinen charakteristischen gedrungenen, dunkelbraunen Körper mit segmentiertem Hinterleib und die markanten perlschnurartigen Fühler. Die Makroaufnahme hebt die strukturierte Oberfläche des Blatts hervor.

Deutlich sichtbar sind die gefächerten, perlschnurartigen Fühler und der kompakte, dunkel gefärbte Körper. Das Insekt sitzt auf einem hellgrünen Blatt mit sichtbarer Blattstruktur im Hintergrund.
Das Männchen der Kurzflügel-Leuchtkäfer (Phosphaenus hemipterus) besitzt, wie auch die Weibchen, nur rudimentäre Flügel und ist flugunfähig. Es gibt bei uns 3 Leuchtkäfer-Arten.
