An unusual one from the archive today. This is the 30' Hythe "Sound Mirror" located on the cliff above the town. It's a pre-#ww2 acoustic mirror, a type of experimental early #radar. The mirror's condition has sadly deteriorated considerably since our #3d #laserscan of 2005

Not the same one but here’s a 2002 laser scan of one of the Oseberg sleigh posts. Amazing! #3d #laserscan #viking

Coincidentally for #StandingStoneSunday, I’m happy to announce the new release of Callanish3D.

This is the high-resolution #3d #laserscan I did in 2005 of Callanish 1 inside Stellarium.

This lets anyone walk around the stones but also visualise the heavens at any point in time!

Here's the Craw Stane standing just outside Rhynie. This is a #3d #photogrammetry capture from 2023, though we did #laserscan Rhynie 2 and 3 in the village square all the way back in 2002! The #Pictish symbols on this probably reused #megalith are superb #earlymediaeval

Scanned for artist Simon Watkinson in 2006, this is the Dagenham Idol, currently on display at Valence House. The fine resolution scan shows off the tooling nicely #3d #laserscan #neolithic

In 2023, we completed this 1:10 scale, 33cm tall #replica of the HMS Colossus figurehead. This was produced from our original 2006 #3d #laserscan which was later enhanced by @tom.goskar.com with some #photogrammetry.

Tom’s article about his work is here: tom.goskar.com/2022/04/22/p...

Here's the Peterhead #Pictish Class I symbol stone, also a reused #megalith. The stone stands at the head of Gleneagles. My photo is from 1994, the render is from our 2001 #3d #laserscan showing the weathered goose and rectangle symbols #earlymediaeval

From 2001, our #3d #laserscan of the Aberlemno I "Serpent" Stone. This is likely a reused #megalith carved with beautiful examples of several #Pictish symbols

From last year…

I've just released a substantial amount of new stuff to the Archaeoptics Archive, about half a terabyte of #3d #photogrammetry datasets mostly of obscure #Pictish stones. All the work we did for English Heritage is also now available! #laserscan #archive

In GEMPOD 4, @hornesupremacy.bsky.social and I talked about our first big job, #Seahenge. Here's a render of our #3d #laserscan of all the timbers arranged using English Heritage survey data. A selection of the timbers currently form a fantastic exhibition at @Lynn_Museum!
