A #limenitis a #gardenwhite and a #southerncomma #butterfly appeared within 10 minutes of each other!!! They mostly loved #verbenabonariensis and #lavandula nectar.

Whoo! Another volunteer in my garden, French Lavender. The mother plant died last year, which had seeded out from another plant which I bought from the local botanic garden. I have a history with this species; good stuff.

A picture of Madrid Lavender, Lavandula stoechas 'Madrid' showing the actual, tiny reddish magenta flowers peeking out of densely stacked purple bracts that, sadly, I am struggling to accurately describe for the visually-impaired. I will not insult you by directly copying Wikipedia's entry, so I encourage any who need a more in-depth description go there. They are covered in extremely short, somewhat soft and aromatic, hairs or trichomes and are a pronounced purple color that contrast with the soft sage green of the rest of the plant. The leaves are similar to that of Lavandula angustifolia but in miniature; narrow with a pointed end and covered in short trichomes that are similarly soft.
It's Monday! Time for plants! Today it's Spanish Lavender. I forget where I got this one, but I remember it's L. stoechas 'Madrid' and introduced me to the species. In typical fashion, now I can recognize it wherever I see it.

A picture captured of the flowering spike of Fernleaf Lavender, Lavandula multifida. The bulk of the plant is lost in an unfocused background, but the flared lavender flowers at the tips of the flower spikes are in-focus though grainy. The deep purple lavender flowers are on the simple side for Mint family plants; short tubular flowers that flare out at one end with a dark purple veining in the petals, and a pale fuzzy calyx cupping the other end. The open flowers are atop a climbing cluster of spent flowers, only visible as closed calyces and the occasional dried flower petal.
It's been a while since I posted a lavender! This is a rarer one in landscaping: Fernleaf or Egyptian Lavender! Although sometimes described as a small shrub, its basal growth habit leans more herbaceous.
