Camellia - Hello (BPM) 2026

Jan 2023 big tragic reset: an overgrown camellia that had been pruned like a shrub for 50 years but got too big, cut back to chest high and ready for a new life.

Feb 2026 blooms hidden by last year’s unpruned growth: last year I just ran out of time and didn’t get to this one (and some others). There is some freshly fallen snow, and the plant is blooming but you can hardly see the flowers.

Mar 2023 after a small pruning, blooming like a superstar: it really looks like a picture in a book

Apr 2023 vigorous new growth: the camellia has dropped most of its blooms, and is now generating lots of new growth. Time to get in there and do some more thinning-out.

With the weather now warm enough for the cherry blossoms to fall, this camellia have truly begun to bloom. The central part is also quite open, but it's their style to not show the stamens.

This was a cutting I took from my garden, stuck it a pot with a plastic bottle over it and it has decided to grow... and flower. Will need to investigate.
