A portrait-oriented telephoto view of the triangular top of a church spire almost silhouetted against a dark blue dusk sky with a single very bright ‘star’ next to it. The spire is tall and sender, taking almost the entire height of the frame to taper to a point. The spire is arranged vertically about a third of the way in from the left, and the ‘star’ (Venus) sits in the upper-right of the image. A band of cloud frames the top of the scene, and the top of a street-lit hedgerow the bottom.

This shot of Venus setting next to the spire of the St. Patrick's College #Maynooth chapel deep in dusk was a learning opportunity — I had no idea the image processing pipeline in the iPhone 17 ProMax had been upgraded to extend night mode across all lenses, including the 8x telephoto!

A low close shot of small wild flowers with a child’s playground visible behind in soft focus. The flowers are purple and beak-shaped, with the blooms appearing in little clusters at the top of short stems. The stems are covered in leaves, bigger at the base, and getting smaller higher up the stems. The leaves are pointed, dark green, and very textured. The playground consists of two pointed towers with slides of various kinds emanating from them. They evoke a medieval castle but are distinctly modern, painted in bright red and teal green

There is something very appropriate about this memorial to the Ecclesiastical History professor Patrick Corish in the Juinior Gardens In St. Patrick's College #Maynooth — a tree of knowledge growing out of a book.

A low and close view of a small flowering plant growing through brown fallen leaves with a grassy area with bare trees visible behind in soft focus, and a blue sky with thin white clouds above. The plant has three little pastel-yellow flowers with four notched petals. The flowers are raised over a clump of dark green leaves with a texture like savoy cabbage.

A square face-on view of a three to four inch white flower with five long slender widely spaced petals and a conical mound of red stamens at the centre. The bare branches of the tree the flower is growing on, and more flowers are visible behind in soft focus, and behind that, in very soft focus, is a red bricked wall.

Magnifiscent Magnolia — this perfect specimen in growing on a relatively young tree in the public space around some relatively new apartments in #Maynooth. The flowers are more open and slender than the more traditional varieties I see elsewhere around the village. #Bloomscrolling

A portrait-oriented wide landscape view along a curve in a rural canal at dusk. The canal is mirror-smooth and arcs through the scene from the right foreground to the left and then back to a vanishing point in the right mid-ground. A yellow-fronted dark green train with white doors and two prominent headlights approaches in the mid-ground on the far (right) bank of the canal and it’s shape and lit windows are reflected in the water. The light is fading so the entire scene is relatively dark, and the sky is a navy blue colour. The silhouettes of bare trees can be seen in the distance.

When you're standing in a beautiful dusk scene it's always tempting to shoot into the setting sun and get those amazing oranges, but when you turn the opposite way you get cool rich blues which can be beautiful in their own way! #IrishRail #Maynooth #RoyalCanal

A near-silhouette dusk landscape shot dominated by a lightly clouded sky coloured bright orange at the horizon, fading to salmon pink and then blue higher in the darkening sky. The silhouette of a train with two headlights reflected in a still body of water dominate the mid-ground. A curving path running along the near edge of the water is just visible in the foreground.

A square crop of an orange lightly clouded sky reflected in a mirror smooth canal, framed on three sides by inside or a stone arch bridge and its reflection. A foot path breaks the symmetry on the right, narrowing the canal to let the path under the bridge too.

Catholicism in Ireland has been declining for decades. Are young people coming back? After years of bad news and declining numbers, is Catholic Ireland experiencing a revival—particularly among young men?

Rev Dr Michael Shortall shared some thoughts on the Irish Church and St Patrick's College in America Magazine. Thanks to Kevin Hargaden for facilitating.

A portrait-oriented low but relatively wide view of a sea of mostly yellow but some white & yellow foot-and-a-half tall trumpet shaped flowers growing on stalks rising over clumps of foot-tall dark green grass-shaped leaves along the the grassy verge at the edge of a suburban road under bare trees. The flowers disappear into the distance, and traffic lights, road signs, and a car can be seen in the background in slightly soft focus.

Looking back at the most recent keepers in my camera roll, it seems clear the Irish just love planting daffodils in all colours and sizes, and sometimes, in impressive volumes! This spectacular display graces the roadside at Tesco in #Maynooth. #Bloomscrolling

A low close view of small blue flowers with a shallow depth of field. The flowers are growing at the edge of a street curb and consist of 4” flowering stalks with small little blue spherical bell-shaped blooms reminiscent of blueberries, but much lighter in colour. The stalks are growing up between dark green waxy grass-shaped leaves. A car, wall, and some bare trees are visible behind in very soft focus.

A little early, but someone placed a single daffodil flower on the commemorative plaque under the tree planted to remember the Irish Easter Rising which triggered Irelands's eventual full independence from the UK in the little park next to St. Mary's Band Hall in #Maynooth. #Bloomscrolling
