a mystical and imaginative painting blending aquatic, celestial, and earthly elements in a dreamlike, theatrical composition, using a sophisticated technique where layers of vibrant color are revealed by scratching through a black surface. The painting features drifting fish, a central clock tower, childlike flowers in a vase, celestial discs resembling planets, and whimsical human figures against a dark background, creating a collage-like effect with a muslin curtain that hints at more mysteries to be unveiled.

"Harpies" relief print circa 1950s - signed numbered Ober was born in the town of Freilassing - a suburb of Salzburg, Austria just across the border in Germany, in 1920. He studied with the artist Engelbert Staller, a church painter from his home town, and had his first exhibition of his artwork at the tender age of 17. Ober was called up for service in 1939 and served in the ‘mountain troops’ a local reserve in the area. In 1942 he was wounded by a grenade explosion, and he subsequently lost his leg. He returned to his home town where he continued to study art during the final years of the war. After the war ended, Ober studied with Slavi Soucek in Salzburg, and in Munich where he completed his ‘master painter’ degree. This was where he was first exposed to the international Modernism movement, and he resolved that abstract art was his main interest going forward. In 1951 he was a founding member of the Salzburg Group. His artworks are in the collections of many museums worldwide including the V&A in London, the Museum of Modern Art in Kamakura Japan, the Cincinnati Museum in Ohio, and many museums throughout Germany and Austria.

a moody impressionist digital portrait of Virginia Woolf, her face partially dissolved into inky brushstrokes and soft sepia haze, expression contemplative and distant, background layered with blurred handwritten text and rippling water motifs, muted grayscale palette washed with gentle amber highlights, clothing abstracted into flowing lines like pages caught in wind, subtle lighting evoking dawn through fog, asymmetry in composition echoing her internal tumult and literary rhythm

Franz's mature works mostly are animals, and are known for bright colors. He was drafted to serve in the German Army at the beginning of World War I, and died two years later at the Battle of Verdun. In the 1930s, the Nazis named him a degenerate artist as part of their suppression of modern art.[2] However, most of his work survived World War II, securing his legacy. His work is now exhibited in many eminent galleries and museums. – Wikipedia

Joan Miró i Ferrà was a Catalan Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramist who helped define the Surrealist movement. His work is known for its childlike expression and symbolic language of simplified, biomorphic forms. Miró's art combined abstract art with Surrealist fantasy, and he was influenced by Dadaism and Surrealism. He developed a unique style that challenged traditional painting and bourgeois society.

Hailed as “the perfect painter” by avant-garde writer Gertrude Stein, Juan Gris developed his signature approach to Cubism beginning in 1911. Using classic café subject matter — such as the newspaper, seltzer bottle, and glass seen here — Gris made subtle adjustments to the conventions of picture making that render ordinary objects both familiar and newly intriguing. For example, in The Checkerboard (1915) and its bird’s-eye view of a tabletop, a cunning reorganization of pictorial space places objects that should have volume into a single compressed plane. With a nod to play, Gris shows us a fragmented checkerboard, an emblem of the strategy and gamesmanship at the center of his art.

Guatemalan artist Carlos Mérida (1891-1984) is a prominent figure in Mexico's modern art movement. In 1919, fascinated by the artistic revolution, he moved to Mexico City and became involved with the muralists, working as an assistant to Diego Rivera. Mérida's early work, like that of many of the Mexican muralists, was politically oriented and executed in a figurative style. His style shifted after 1927, when Mérida took a second trip to Europe, his art became less representational; he eventually developed his characteristic abstract style of geometrically conceived figures and forms, as seen here. In his later works he combined modern European influences from Cubism and Surrealism, with aspects of Mayan art.

Tropicana Glow: Havana’s Bold Modern Oasis "Experience Havana’s vibrant fusion of tropical beauty and modernist design." Tropicana Gardens is reimagined as a striking fusion of modernist architecture and lush tropical vibrancy, where bold geometric overlays and vivid natural forms intertwine. The golden morning light casts intricate shadow patterns on the tiled walkways, while palm fronds and hibiscus blooms shine in bursts of cyan, magenta, and yellow. The interplay of bold contrasts and playful outlines creates a dynamic scene that pulses with life and color. The lattice structures and reflective surfaces shimmer in the sunlight, blending precision and exuberance into a unified whole. The avant-garde interpretation transforms Havana’s iconic gardens into an immersive tropical haven, balancing order with chaos in a display of architectural elegance and natural exuberance.
