Gosh Nedbank, are you getting paid by MS for this - it used to be only Adobe, now this 🤦.

And should I take a chance and open an emailed .zip folder 🤔, or force them to send the PDF's as attachments?

Nedbank Group acquires ikhokha Nedbank Group has announced that it has entered into a binding agreement to acquire 100% of fintech innovator iKhokha Proprietary Limited for a cash consideration of approximately N$1.65 billion (subject to certain adjustments upon conclusion), a move that marks a significant milestone in Nedbank’s strategy to deepen its support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through digital innovation and inclusive financial services.  The iKhokha transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to conclude in the coming months. The acquisition of iKhokha will strengthen and scale Nedbank’s positioning in the SME market.  The acquisition will result in iKhokha becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Nedbank while continuing to operate under its own brand and leadership team. The acquisition includes a comprehensive management lock-in to ensure managerial continuity and alignment with long-term growth objectives.  Jason Quinn, chief executive of Nedbank Group, noted: “We believe that empowering entrepreneurs is essential to building a thriving and inclusive economy. iKhokha’s mission and technology align perfectly with our vision for digital transformation in the SME sector. Together, we will unlock new opportunities for growth and financial inclusion in South Africa and potentially abroad.” Founded in 2012, iKhokha is a South African fintech company that provides card machines, digital payment solutions, and business tools to SMEs. Since its founding, iKhokha has established itself as a leading trusted partner to South African entrepreneurs, offering a suite of affordable, accessible SME cash advance and payment and business management tools.  Since its inception, iKhokha has helped hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs grow their businesses by making financial services more accessible and affordable. iKhokha processes north of N$20 billion annually in digital payments and has distributed more than N$3 billion in working capital into the SME sector to date.  –Johannesburg Stock Exchange

Nedbank writes off Namibian home loans Chamwe Kaira  Nedbank Group’s results for the six months ending June 30 revealed a 77% increase in impairments, totalling N$184 million.  This rise was driven by write-offs in Namibia’s retail home loan portfolio, impairment reviews in Eswatini, and a downgrade in Mozambique’s sovereign debt ratings. Nedbank also extended its intelligent depositor device rollout across Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, now offering cash recycling capabilities.  Terence Sibiya, Nedbank’s group managing executive for Africa Regions, emphasised that the future of the bank’s growth lies in Africa.  The Nedbank Africa Regions (NAR) cluster, which includes Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, along with offices in Kenya and Ghana, has become a key growth driver, delivering strong results and opening new opportunities across the continent. In Eswatini, digital innovation and fintech are thriving, supporting a growing ecosystem of mobile-first solutions and tech-enabled SMEs.  Lesotho is emerging as a hub for sustainable textiles and renewable energy, with Nedbank backing green industrialisation through specialised financial solutions and cross-border trade facilitation.  Mozambique is advancing in climate-smart agriculture and LNG development, driven by international investment in infrastructure and energy. Namibia leads the continent in green hydrogen, sustainable finance, and mining, supported by a national strategy that aligns with Nedbank’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments.  Zimbabwe is seeing growth in creative industries and digital commerce, with youth-led enterprises reshaping the informal economy and fostering innovation. Sibiya stated that Nedbank’s ESG-aligned lending and advisory services are helping countries like Namibia and Mozambique transition to more sustainable and inclusive economies.  In Namibia, the launch of Avo SuperShop is connecting merchants to digital marketplaces, expanding access to e-commerce and financial services. Looking ahead, Nedbank warned of a subdued global economic outlook, with elevated risks due to US tariffs potentially affecting business confidence, capital investment, global trade volumes, supply chains, and exports. Nedbank’s chief executive, Jason Quinn, noted that South Africa’s economic recovery is expected to improve, driven by increased consumer spending, higher real incomes, subdued inflation, and reduced interest rates. He added that despite a challenging operating environment, the group saw 6% growth in headline earnings (HE) to N$8.4 billion, with a slight increase in return on equity (ROE) to 15.2%.  This growth was driven by non-interest revenue (NIR) and associate income, ongoing improvements in impairments, and good management of expenses. However, net interest income growth remained muted. Quinn also pointed to uncertainty caused by US policies, particularly tariffs, and geopolitical conflicts, which resulted in financial market volatility and reduced business confidence. In South Africa, real GDP growth declined to 0.1% in the first quarter of 2025. Nedbank’s retail active clients grew by 6% to 7.3 million, while main-banked clients reached 3.8 million. The Nedbank Africa Regions client base increased by 11% to over 419,000, with around 163,000 main-banked clients.

Supreme court clears sale of Anga Enterprises’ bonded properties Justicia Shipena  The Supreme Court has overturned a High Court decision that delayed the sale of bonded commercial properties in the case involving Nedbank Namibia and Anga Enterprises CC.  The ruling follows Nedbank’s appeal against the High Court’s temporary suspension of the sale of properties used as collateral for a loan of more than N$7.8 million. In 2022, Nedbank obtained a default judgment against Anga Enterprises and its owners. The bank later applied to declare four commercial properties executable. The properties were not primary residences but used for business purposes. The High Court granted the application but ordered a six-month delay, during which Anga Enterprises was allowed to repay the debt through monthly instalments of N$300,000 to N$500,000.  The court made this order despite no formal request or supporting evidence from the owners. Nedbank appealed, arguing that the High Court had misapplied a legal provision intended to protect primary residences, not business properties. The bank also said the proposed repayment plan lacked clarity and would not clear the debt within a reasonable period. On 24 July 2025, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Nedbank.  Deputy chief justice Petrus Damaseb said the High Court had exceeded its jurisdiction. He said the law allows the sale of commercial properties used as security without the need to assess the debtor’s personal or business circumstances.  Damaseb also noted that the repayment plan was vague and insufficient to settle the debt in time. The ruling clears the way for Nedbank to proceed with execution. The court did not make a ruling on legal costs.

Nedbank-Trollope deal targets growth in mineral sector Erasmus Shalihaxwe Nedbank Namibia has finalised the funding deal with Trollope Contractors Namibia (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of the South African-based Trollope Mining Group. Nedbank Namibia managing director Martha Murorua announced the agreement on Monday, calling it the start of a strategic partnership to advance Namibia’s mining sector.  The funding includes asset-based finance and working capital to support Trollope’s mining operations in the country. “The Nedbank funding is expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity in the Erongo Region. A strategic partnership for growth. Trollope Contractors Namibia is a new entrant to the Namibian market but brings with it nearly five decades of mining experience across Southern Africa. The company is known for its operational excellence, safety standards, and one of the largest mining equipment fleets on the continent,” said Murorua. She said Trollope’s entry into Namibia is part of a broader strategy to diversify its reach across mineral sectors and regions. “This partnership with Trollope is a powerful example of how Nedbank CIB is enabling growth in sectors that matter. Mining is a cornerstone of Namibia’s economy, and we are proud to support a company that not only delivers operational excellence but also contributes meaningfully to local development, export earnings, and employment,” Murorua added. Murorua said Trollope’s work in the Erongo region is expected to boost production and support the global demand for clean energy resources.  She added that the deal fits with Nedbank’s focus on supporting sustainable development and economic transformation. She said the partnership reflects Nedbank’s ability to provide integrated financial solutions across the continent and aligns with Trollope’s plans to expand across Southern Africa, with Namibia as a key part of that growth. “The company’s strong financial and operational support from its South African base ensures continued success and scalability. This deal is more than just a financial transaction. It is a partnership built on shared values and a shared vision for the future of mining in Namibia. We look forward to supporting Trollope as they grow their footprint and contribute to the country’s economic development,” said Murorua.

Nedbank Desert Ice Challenge T20 League returns  Nedbank Namibia, through its Beyond Banking Division, has extended its support of the Desert Ice Challenge T20 League by providing a N$150 000 sponsorship for the 2025 season. This is the second year running that Nedbank Namibia will be sponsoring one of the country’s most prestigious cricket leagues through a partnership with Impact Cricket Namibia. The N$150 000 sponsorship from Nedbank Namibia, through the Avo SuperShop and Paytoday platforms, will provide the league with essential resources, which will enable the organisers to host exceptional cricket events during the tournament. The director of Impact Cricket Namibia, Asad Abbas, said after realising the significant gap in the level of skills between Namibian players and other countries, they decided to come up with various strategies (one of them being the Desert Ice Challenge T20 League) that will allow players to improve their skills:  ‘While travelling to different countries, we observed that the high skill level in cricket is a result of having many players participating from various backgrounds, as well as the frequency of games and exposure they receive. For example, a player in South Africa will have played thousands of competitive cricket games against thousands of different players before making it to the national team, while a player in Namibia would have played a few hundred games against fewer than a hundred players.’  This is where Impact Cricket came up with the idea of the Desert Ice Challenge T20 League, whose aim is to develop and support the expansion of cricket as a sport of choice nationwide. Abbas said: ‘We have started a new trend for cricket in the country to enable the sport to be played continuously throughout the year, including players from across all leagues. This is one of the country’s most prestigious cricket tournaments, offering a platform for over 180 players from national, premier, and junior divisions to compete in a professionally managed and competitive environment.’  He added that Nedbank Namibia’s renewed commitment to sponsor the 2025 edition of the Desert Ice Challenge T20 League, organised by Impact Cricket Namibia, carries significant weight for both the development of cricket in Namibia and the broader goals of community upliftment. Abbas said Nedbank Namibia’s sponsorship of N$150 000 through its Avo SuperShop and Paytoday platforms, for the 2025 Desert Ice Challenge T20 League is not merely financial but is a strategic investment in grassroots sports development. The money will be used for the planning and executing of the challenge through sourcing of fields; payment of groundsmen, umpires, scorers, media crew, content creators; team branding; social media; digital media; print media coverage; live scores; livestreaming; and prize money.  Meanwhile, Cricket Namibia’s Johan Muller said that as a federation, they are proud of the work being done by the organisers of the Desert Ice Challenge:  ‘The main benefits to cricket through this initiative are that cricket is now played at the senior level and at the recreational level, and some of the juniors who integrate into this competition on an annual basis. There are no more domestic seasons; it means that players can be involved in the game for the entire year, with different competitions. What is quite nice about this competition is that it’s breaking away slightly from the traditional club setup, as it allows corporates and partners to become involved in club cricket.’  Muller added that the youth get the opportunity to play with some more senior players under their guidance, with some national players also participating in the competition:  ‘Another benefit is that this competition is not just Windhoek-based; it’s also played in Tsumeb, Gobabis and at the coast, which means that cricket is taken throughout the country. Overall, this initiative has brought quite many benefits from a cricket perspective, and even though it is not a Cricket Namibia tournament, it is great to see how it has grown over the last two years.’  Nedbank Namibia Head of Beyond Banking, Roean Kruger said that by sponsoring the 2025 Impact Cricket, Nedbank Namibia is proud to be part of the positive trajectory journey of Namibian cricket:  ‘As money experts, our commitment to the communities we serve extends far beyond traditional banking. Our sponsorship of the 2025 Desert Ice Challenge T20 League is a clear demonstration of this ‘Beyond Banking’ philosophy. We are thrilled to once again partner and support this initiative. These programs do more than just teach the technicalities of the game; they are instrumental in instilling crucial life values such as teamwork and discipline, as well as the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle.’ He added that Nedbank Namibia values the power of sport to shape lives and build a stronger nation, as evidenced by its long entrenchment in the development of cricket in Namibia through supporting initiatives that nurture talent from grassroots levels to competitive stages:  ‘This continued investment in Impact Cricket underscores our dedication to fostering its growth and ensuring more young Namibians can participate and excel. By investing in Impact Cricket, we are investing in the future leaders and well-rounded citizens of Namibia, and we eagerly anticipate another year of exciting development and community engagement through this fantastic initiative.’ The post Nedbank Desert Ice Challenge T20 League returns  appeared first on The Namibian.
