This windowpane flounder was seemingly getting pestered by these hermit crabs. When it turned to move away from my lights, it flicked the hermit crab off.
A surf clam buried in the sand with its siphon sticking out to filter food from the water column.

Subject: Juvenile Atlantic Longarm Octopus. A tiny translucent octopus with large eyes and red highlights crawls along a sandy bottom with tiny arms outstretched. This is the only time I have ever seen this species in New England.
Subject: Sea Hare. This large slug is red to reddish-brown with rhinophores. It is crawling along a sandy bottom toward the camera with tiny eyespots "looking ahead"
Subject: Common Octopus. This large, dark red octopus is facing straight toward the camera with arms stretched in all directions as it moves along the sandy bottom.
Subject: Common Octopus Eye. The skin around the eye is tan and brown with some small bumps on the surface. The octopus' eye is covered in colorful speckles.
Throwback to more 2021 night diving madness! A tiny juvenile Atlantic Longarm Octopus, multiple common octopus, and a massive sea hare were among the highlights.

Subject: Spotfin butterflyfish. A small round fish with a silver body interrupted by black vertical stripes across the eye and ahead of the tail. The pectoral and dorsal fins are bright yellow.

Some images from a night dive back in late August at Fort Wetherill State Park in Rhode Island. The northern sennet is native, but uncommon and the short bigeye is from warmer waters.
