So the next time you look at someone's life covetously, remember... you may not want to endure what they are enduring right now, at this moment, whilst they sit so quietly before you, looking like a calm ocean on a sunny day. Remember how vast the ocean's boundaries are. Whilst somewhere the water is calm, in another place in the very same ocean, there is a colossal storm.

You are allowed to break. Everything does. The stars grow tired an fall. The waves crash against rocks and shores. Trees fall for both storms and the wind, leaving behind seeds and saplings so a version of them can grow again. Stormclouds part for the rain and then part again for the sun to come through. Night must break for day and the day for the night. The world is made of broken things pieces themselves back together - this is what gives us the most resilient stories. So why do you think that you were built any differently than the night and the stormclouds? You know how to put yourself back together again too, just as well as they do. Take heart. You have managed to rebuild yourself a thousand times over from every bad day. That is no small thing.

Tell your daughters how you love your body. Tell them how they must love theirs. Tell them to be proud of every bit of themselves— from their tiger stripes to the soft flesh of their thighs, whether there is a little of them or a lot, whether freckles cover their face or not, whether their curves are plentiful or slim, whether their hair is thick, curly, straight, long or short. Tell them how they inherited their ancestors, souls in their smiles, that their eyes carry countries that breathed life into history, that the swing of their hips does not determine their destiny. And one day the universe decided that it would sit down and write you alive, empty stardust into your veins and make you exist. No wonder you are holding both a storm and a calm sea inside that body of yours - and on days the world overwhelms you, you think of yourself as more mess less miracle. It is easy to forget sometimes. That you are a living, breathing piece of poetry written to defy all cosmic odds.
