Every scenery is different, tinged with autumn lights and colors. When the path climbs, it crosses an alpine forest, leaving the rainforest down in the valley. Higher up some lakes are appearing, perfect links between the woods and the alpine meadows.

Washington With Bones – Part 2C: Sol Duc and Rialto Beach It had already been a long day by the time we navigated the windy road down off Hurricane Ridge and traveled, once again, along the south shore of Lake Crescent. The lake is beautiful, but I was really starting to feel stuck in this one little area. We'd been back and forth along this stretch 3 times now, and it was time to strike out to new territory - after all, our reserved campsite for the night was out by the beach!

Washington With Bones – Part 1: Arrival, Olympic There's one advantage to getting up at 3am to catch an early flight from the US east coast to the west coast. Time zones work to your advantage in this direction, so you can make this trip and still arrive before local lunch time, leaving plenty of time to get a half-day in to start a trip. Of course, your body still experiences the real passage of time, so even though you might have an afternoon free - you're too exhausted to do much with it.
