SciAm: Fossilized Skin on Dinosaur ‘Mummies’ Isn’t Skin at All The scaly skin of a crest over the back of the juvenile duck-billed dinosaur Edmontosaurus annectens, nicknamed “Ed Jr.” The juvenile duckbill, estimated to be about two years old at the time it died, is the only juvenile dinosaur mummy ever discovered. Tyler Keillor/Fossil Lab Scientific American has an interesting article about dinosaur "mummies". In 1908, Charles Sternberg found the "first dinosaur mummy".

Any of my paleontology mutuals or followers have any good books that are in Chinese? I have some followers on rednote asking for some paleo anatomy books, but all they can find are ones on mammals. I recommended get away trike, but wondered if there might be others I’m not aware of.

So, it appears my wife got our cat an oversized, plush model of Radiodont teeth.

Denversaurus grew 20 feet long in Colorado 68 million years ago. Armor plates fused solid. It lived in coastal marshes.

Its beak cropped soft plants. The tail lacked a club. Fossils show dense bones. It roamed in protective herds.

Everything I'm seeing around conservation and the colossal dire wolf is exactly what ian Malcolm warned us about. We were obsessed with if we could we never stop to think if we should. We failed him #scicomm #conservation #jurassicpark #paleontolgy #endangeredspecies

High res photo of a tiny piece of #Jurassic shale coated in tiny bivalves. This was deposited at the start of a catastrophic climate change event. The bivalves are tiny versions of adults that adapted to the low O2 conditions on the seabed. #geology #paleontolgy

Just reading Parry et al 2017 on the exceptional preservation of soft tissue. Kinda makes sense that decay prone tissues would mineralise early. I can imagine that the decay of these tissues creates chemical gradients ideal for rapid mineralisation. #geology #paleontolgy ⚒️
