Tomorrow at the Corvallis city council meeting, the group behind the Monroe Avenue Corridor Study will request that the council start the process to add it to the transportation plan
I support this plan, as it will make Monroe Avenue better for pedestrians and bicyclists

If you’re going downtown today for the protest in Corvallis, consider taking the bus
It’s free and you avoid having to try and find parking on a very busy day

Just a reminder for anyone local in Corvallis, tomorrow there is a meeting at the Corvallis community center discussing the Monroe Avenue redesign
#cityplanning #urbanism #urbandesign #transitsky #pedestrianism #buses #transit
The corridor is a joint effort between OSU and the City of Corvallis
This is the last community outreach meeting before the process of City Council adopting this plan

Initial crossing concept for the pedestrian crossing over 9th street near Beca and Cornell Avenue in Corvallis It shows parking removed on Beca southern side for a two way bicycle lane A new crosswalk is painted across Beca, and left turns into this street are no longer allowed from the south To the south of Beca the bicycle path continues protected on the sidewalk to the new 9th pedestrian crossing. This includes a large concrete island and signal lights. The two way bike path continues a bit on Cornell. Cornell has also been changed to only allow right turns out onto 9th Image taken from city of Corvallis website
Speaking locally, the city of Corvallis is planning another pedestrian crossing across 9th near Beca avenue. They’re adding traffic control to improve pedestrian safety
Also, Beca is planned to be a neighborhood bikeway so they’re building a 2 way bike path

For a bit of good news, there is finally a bus to the Eugene airport!
The 99-vine runs 4x a day each way, and goes from McMinnville down Hwy 99 to the Eugene airport and train station
The bus is free for the 6 month pilot program

I’m off to see the Beavers. In an attempt to avoid discussing the actual team, let’s talk transit options
While there are extra buses to the stadium, these are all shuttles from park lots
Biking/walking is the only non-car option today, as CTS stops by 7 pm

Image taken from Corvallis government website. It shows the Corvallis transit system map overlaid on the city
If you’re going downtown today, (for farmers market or the protest), can I recommend taking the bus?
You don’t have to worry about parking or driving on a very crowded day, and it saves on gas (and parking)

One of the best examples for demonstrating how much excess space cars take up is, ironically, a car commercial
It shows how Cars take a lot of space to often carry only 1 or 2 passengers. Our infrastructure is not developed to fit a human scale

Picture of a poster for the 52nd annual Corvallis fall festival at a booth
Shot down the closed Monroe avenue from western Central Park towards city hall and the library Fall festival is going on and there’s lines at the many foot trucks
A illustration of a concept using Fall Festival:
On average, cars carry ~1.5 passengers. The density of people on this closed section of Monroe is much higher than normal
Consider how much parking space it would take if everyone below drove

Black and white map of Corvallis with the planned Tyler avenue bikeway section surrounded by a black rectangle
Picture of Corvallis showing a road sign for Tyler avenue
Getting back to more local matters, Corvallis has begun construction on the second neighborhood bikeway on Tyler avenue!
The bikeways are meant to be supportive to casual riders who don’t want to use a bike lane along a busy roadway

If you're looking for a timeline cleanser...
Before "Couch to 5k", there was "walk 1000 miles while carrying hazelnuts in your mouth." Britain’s Victorian obsession with long-distance walking was gloriously bonkers.

I have not signed up for any races in 2025, yet, but I am planning on "events" on the Summer Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. They seem as good days as any for ridiculousness. #Running #Ultra #Pedestrianism #FatGuyRunning #UostateNY
I’ve long maintained city centers should close off all vehicular traffic except deliveries, public transit, and disability transit. More proof to validate this feeling #CarFreeZones #PollutionSolution #Pedestrianism
