Ophelia was a #peridotite, but the evil opening of the Atlantic turned her into a #serpentinite. She wandered endlessly in the geological time until she met the #granite. The granite, moved by her story, transformed her into peridotite again but with #amphibole, to remember her hydrous past. ⚒️❤️
Pyroxenite xenoliths of #mantle origin were erupted from only 3 Hawaiʻi rejuvenation vents, composite #peridotite - #pyroxenite xenoliths are rarer and may reflect opx dissolution. Revisiting this Oʻahu sample from January, no visible garnet in handsample but cool nonetheless.

This Blue Ridge Ophiolite spinel dunite originated via a metasomatic reaction causing good old opx assimilation in #harzburgite forming #dunite channels in what was once an extremely slow-moving spreading center. Extreme deformation of the Appalachians stretched these #peridotite lenses and pods.
