Birds Sit Like Drops That Can’t Fall into the Sky—Waiting for Wind to Write a Word

Rublev’s monument is not an image, but an attempt to listen. His face was never preserved, and bronze doesn’t know how he looked. But the birds know where to sit. They come to him like to an icon painter who still paints — not with pigment, but with silence.

No face was preserved,
but birds redraw him each day —
memory sleeps in feathers.

“Silence watches over her shoulder” (Ilford PAN 400)

She Draws But Doesn’t See—Trees Turn to Crosses, Wind Becomes Voices of the Gone.

The third frame is an epilogue with no ending. She draws not what she sees, but what the earth remembers. Her pencil glides like a shadow that can’t find its place. Lines torn from the air become crosses, the notebook a bridge between what war and revolutions took and what trees gave back. She doesn’t know whose names these lines write—but feels the ground tremble beneath her, ready to yield what it’s held for centuries. Air here is thick with silent words, and every stroke is a cry that never flew away.

“Crosses stand like voices, forgotten and returned” (Ilford PAN 400)

Wood keeps the names, earth keeps the breath. Air Here’s Thick with Words Never Said—Heavier Than Shadows.

The first frame of the triptych is like the first line of a prayer. The crosses, set where forgotten graves once were, stand as guards between past and present. Their shadows, longer than time, stretch toward the earth where heroes once rested—now only wind remembers their names. Leaves falling on stone carry voices of those who never lived to see restoration. Here, memory isn’t a recollection—it’s a shadow that never fades. It rustles in the cracks of crosses: “We didn’t leave. We just became trees to keep breathing.

“The earth knows names not carved in stone” (Ilford PAN 400)

Air’s Thick with Words That Fell into Grass—But Couldn’t Become Voices

The second frame answers the first. A white cross stands in shadow, yet becomes a source of light. It doesn’t mark a grave — it marks return. The space around it is not just forest, but a temple of memory, where every shadow is a name, and every beam a voice.

“Wings as Shadow, Flower as Question, Pillar as Silence” (Ilford PAN 400)
(“Angel Stands. Time Lies at His Feet—Like Shoes Without an Owner”)

The angel leans on the column, looking for support in stone but finding it in silence. In the hand, a flower that can’t fade—it’s already part of forever. Fallen leaves at the base are a calendar nobody flips. In black-and-white, grief turns into music that only the photograph can hear.

flower trembling in the hush,
autumn leaves below.

Notes: The film rested in unknown conditions, like a letter without an address. Silver and chemistry entered into dialogue with autumn: grain softened, contrast grew hesitant, tonal shifts carried the flavor of both decay and light. Each frame is less a document than a conversation between time and stone, with chance conducting the score. This roll is not a record but a ritual: emulsion whispering with fallen leaves, shadows rehearsing eternity. Grain softened, contrast bent, tones shifted like voices in a choir of silence. Each frame carries its own autumn, its own stillness, its own stubborn memory.

“The necropolis breathes, its breath smells of time” (Ilford PAN 400)
(“Angel Holds Cross—But Heaven’s Door Has No Knob”)

Trees ain’t growin’ here—they’re guardin’ forgotten promises. Angel’s holdin’ a cross, but in his hand’s a clock spring that’ll never stop tickin’. Grave shadows creep like cats, hissin’: “We were alive once—till we became shadows.” And the wind, slitherin’ through the branches, repeats: “Time ain’t a river. It’s a nail hammered into your heart every damn day. Fences and gravestones, worn and new, join in a chorus where every voice is stone. This isn’t just a monument; it’s a stage where eternity takes the lead role.

“Trees whisper, crosses hush, statue listens”
(«Leaves Whisper: “Rest, Dead Ones—We’re Just Ghosts in Light”»)

The stone remembers what the trees forgot. The angel, slipped off her shoulder, whispers: “Bored of being forever.” Flowers are fake eyes staring into the void where time trips over its own shadow. Here, where the wind’s last name is “Eternity”, every brick of the grave groans: “Why’d you mold me from ash?” And the stone mother, hugging the angel like a loaf of bread, murmurs: “I ain’t crying. I’m just holding the door open.”

"Statue’s Eyes See What Her Hand Holds: Time"
(“Stone whispers, nobody’s tuned in”)

Close-up = time forgets to breathe. The statue’s face, carved from ash, stares not at the grave but at a branch where a bird sits, undecided if it’s alive or stone. The angel sleeps, cheek pressed to shoulder—its wings just a crack in the rock. Here, death murmurs: “I ain’t the end. Just a shadow that forgot how to be light.”

"Poet. Character. Memory". (Kodak Professional Plus-X 125)
He’s not the hero, but gave her voice — and now she stands.
2022.08.11

Vvedenskoye Cemetery. On poet Isaac Borisov’s tomb, it’s not his likeness but the heroine of his poems. A girl in Red Army uniform stands as the voice of memory. The inscription — “Don’t say he died. No, he fell in battle” — turns the monument into a poetic manifesto.

She’s not the poet. She’s the character he wrote. A face carved in stone, a name borrowed from verse. Now she stands alone — silent, remembered, as if the poem outlived the poet.

Her name remains. Her face — in stone. All else is guesswork.

Katyusha Pavlova. 1967–198?. All we know is a name, some years, and a face carved in stone. She left life young, and no one told her story. Maybe she simply lived. Maybe she loved. Maybe she dreamed. But someone placed this stone. Which means — she mattered. At least to one person. Which means — she matters.

“She weeps, the crypt listens, the lamp stays silent.” (Kodak Professional Plus-X 125)

Grief Frozen on the Step.
Vvedenskoye Cemetery. Tomb of the Fuld family. A marble mourner sits by the crypt, as if waiting for time to start moving again.
__
Among Lutheran graves, a marble mourner sits — the tomb of merchant Robert Fuld’s family. Her posture embodies grief, her veil breathes through stone. Created in the 1920s, the monument became a symbol of memory that outlasted eras and decay.

The mourner sleeps, the lamp never burns out — time does not move.

The flower is gone, the legend remains.
At Vvedenskoye Cemetery, the bronze figure by the Plo family crypt is no portrait — it’s allegory. Leon and Sophie died two days apart, and their children commissioned a monument where grief stands at the door. The flower is gone, but the living bring new ones — a gesture of memory, not myth.

“She holds the cross, and we hold our breath.” (Kodak Professional Plus-X 125)

Donskoy Monastery Necropolis, 1816. Ivan Martos casts grief in bronze: a woman with a cross, a medallion with Alekseev’s face. Eternity is posing, and we’re just peeking in.
_____

This tomb, created by I.P. Martos in 1816, honors Ivan Alekseev (1750–1816), a State Council member. The central figure is “Faith,” holding a cross and supporting a portrait medallion — one of Martos’s first “dogmatic” memorials. The cross was stolen in the 1950s… but restorers brought it back — and even gave the statue a little “makeover.” Shot on expired Kodak Plus-X 125. In the Patriarch’s backyard? Forget quiet prayer.
It’s game time.

Girl 1: “I got this!” (hands up like she’s catching a Hail Mary).
Girl 2: “Catch me if you can!” (mid-sprint, grinning like she just stole the last cookie).

Leaves? Not falling. They’re defensive linemen on the ground.

God’s probably watching from the bleachers.
He’s not mad. He’s just… impressed by the footwork.

And that mom in the back?
She’s got one kid jumping like a kangaroo,
and another one chilling in the stroller like a tiny CEO.
She’s calling it “No penalty.”
(Because moms always do.)

💦 Summer Within
September may be called autumn, but warmth still pulses through it. Especially when you’re young, especially when you’re inside the fountain. Water rises, the body responds — and the city becomes play.

The train was heading toward the dark, but the dark kept transferring to the next car. She held his shoulder the way you hold a sleeping pigeon, afraid it might fly up to the ceiling. He held a phone where black‑and‑white snow kept falling, and the snow smelled faintly of iron. The carriage trembled like an old refrigerator where someone had forgotten a heart. Somewhere beyond the glass, a voice announced a station that wasn’t on the map, and they both nodded — yes, time to get off — but stayed seated, each inside their own screen, each inside their own world, still together.

📖 Raw Summer 2017: “Absorbed”

📖 Raw Summer 2017: “Reading Through the Static”
She sits quietly, absorbed in the glow of her screen, while the bench holds her like a frame holds a painting. The scene is simple — a girl, a phone, a summer afternoon. But the film tells another story.

Chemical ghosts bloom across the image — patches of fixer left behind, like memories that refused to rinse away. They creep into the shadows, blur the edges, as if the photo itself is trying to remember something it forgot.

She doesn’t notice. She’s somewhere else — in a message, a novel, a thread of thought. And we, the viewers, are left between two worlds: the digital one she’s reading, and the analog one that’s slowly decaying in silver and salt.

🎥 Raw Summer 2017: “The Street Seeker”

He’s back in the crowd, camera in hand, eyes scanning. Not for spectacle — for truth. The fountain girls are long gone, their laughter dissolved in silver halides. Now he searches for something sharper, something that cuts deeper.

He knows the rhythm of the street, the way people move when they think no one’s watching. He’s not chasing beauty — he’s chasing honesty. And in this frame, caught mid-hunt, he becomes part of the very story he’s trying to tell.
📍 Location: Moscow, Gorky Park.

🍴 Raw Summer 2017: “Talk & Taste”

They stand close, locked in a fast, animated exchange — hands gesturing, eyes locked, words tumbling between bites. A palm-tree shirt, a white Adidas tee, a plastic cup with a straw, and something wrapped in foil that’s half-eaten, half-forgotten.

The crowd swirls around them, but they’re in their own orbit — a summer debate, a shared snack, a moment that tastes like street food and urgency.

“Corn Tenderness”

By the fountain’s edge, a mother feeds her daughter boiled corn. The child reaches with trust, with hunger, with summer in her eyes. The mother leans in, patient and sunlit, offering not just food, but memory — a golden moment that will taste like July for years to come.

“Something with the Foot”

She sits on the fountain’s edge, floral dress brushing the wood, sandals cast aside. One foot in her hands, brows furrowed — maybe a pebble, maybe a blister, maybe just a pause. Behind her, the park breathes: people lounging, chatting, unaware. But here, in this small gesture, summer slows down to a single touch.

📸 Bonus Photo: “The Watcher in the Spray”
He blends in — cap backwards, camera ready, just another face in the crowd. But behind that lens is a sharp eye, capturing joy, chaos, and fleeting moments with quiet precision. The fountain dances, and he doesn’t miss a beat. A tourist to some, a storyteller to those who know.

📸 Bonus Photo 9: “Fountain Frenzy”
Kids, teens, grown-ups — no one’s holding back. The fountain’s alive, and so is everyone in it. It’s not about age or rules, just pure, soaking joy. A spontaneous summer celebration where laughter echoes louder than the water jets.

Series: 🌈 Where the Water Laughs
One summer day, the fountain became a stage. Laughter echoed through the spray, friendships danced in droplets, and time stood still — just long enough for everyone to feel young again. This is not just water. This is joy in motion.

🎈The Joy Brokers
She held their hands like threads of a tale, spinning wonder into the air with each gesture.
In her patterned dress and bright scarf, she was more than performer —
she was a pulse in the city’s celebration.
The children leaned in not because they had to, but because belief, here, felt easy.

She didn’t just entertain — she connected. With one hand in hers, the child stepped into a world where play was sacred. The crowd blurred, the noise faded. In that instant, it was just two people, sharing a story told without words.
This frame captures a fleeting exchange where laughter becomes currency, and the city breathes through its people.

⏳ When Time Walked In
She didn’t arrive — she emerged. Gears turned where her heart might be, and the crowd paused, sensing something ancient in the air. The children stared, not with fear, but with awe. Because sometimes, even in celebration, Time decides to join the dance.
