It's something you should probably use for culture-negative prosthetic joint infections. Local antibiograms alone can be misleading.
This WISCA showed that doxycycline + a fluoroquinolone offer best coverage for #PJI

when concern about #cutibacterium acnes #PJI: ask to obtain 3-5 pieces of tissue from the infected site &request the lab hold aerobic and anaerobic cultures for 14 days

Cumulative incidence of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) within five years of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) (95% CIs) in different strata of diabetes severity and sex. Calculated by the Aalen-Johansen method considering other revisions, emigration, and death as competing risks. *No PJI events were observed in this group (n = 233).
Diabetes is a known risk factor for PJI following TKA. However, the diabetic population is characterized by considerable phenotypic heterogeneity.

Group A, the control group, adhered to conventional protocols with no culture medium and at room temperature.
Groups B-D were stored in thioglycolate broth, a liquid versatile culture medium that also supports the growth of fastidious species (difficult to culture organisms)! 🧫🧪
