Home made quilt with red, white, blue color scheme. The center is a eagle and flag theme. This was modified from a pattern by Jennifer Armentrout, "Stripes in Motion" Threaded Lines Quilt Shop on Etsy. I changed it quite a bit to fit the QOV requirements, and the center panel.

This #QuiltOfValor is finally completed. I gave it its first wash today, to remove starch, freshen the colors, and shrink slightly for texture. It will be presented to a veteran with history of honorable service. #QOV #MenWhoQuilt #QuiltSky

Panel quilt I'm sewing for the quilts of valor program that gives away quilts to honor veterans. The "white" stripes are actually a pale cream. I modified the pattern from "Stripes in Motion" pattern from threadedlines.com from Etsy. I still need to sew on the sides and corners, plus a navy blue border. The purchased pattern had an additional stripes and stars border, but the size would not work for this panel. I think it's better to stop here anyway. Description: Quilt with sawtooth star corners, and striped sides, in patriotic colors, surrounding an eagle motif.

I assembled the top portion of the #QOV panel quilt. Not all sewn together yet. I wanted to see how it will look. Many misadventures. I remade most of the flying geese. The four-at-a-time method was too wonky and difficult. I feel like this part looks pretty good. #MenWhoQuilt #Quiltsky

Small 9-Patch quilt blocks in navy blue and white, and quarter square triangles in red and white.

Completed small quilt blocks for Irish chain / Star quilt. The small 9 patches are done. Next they need to be combined with some sashing and blue squares to make larger blocks. The Quarter Square Triangles are sewn, need pressing and trimming. Then make into stars. #MenWhoQuilt #Quiltsky #QOV

Small blue and cream 9-patch quilt squares for Irish chain quilt. Red and cream half-square triangles for the stars. Those will be quarter square triangles for star points.

I use the two-at-a-time method for half square triangles. The bias seam is sewn before cutting, avoiding deformations from stretching. I iron to the dark side so they will nest for the quarter square triangles.

These are the blue and cream strips assembled into small nine- patches to make the Irish chains.

The Irish Chains start as long strips, sewn together as Blue-cream- blue or cream- blue-cream. The blue fabric is a "vintage" map reproduction in navy blue with old-gold markings.

Veterans of Vietnam and Korean War eras, Cowlitz tribe elders, being awarded Quilts of Valor for their histories of honorable service.

Yesterday I helped out at awards of Quilts of Valor to 16 Cowlitz tribe elders who had served honorably during the Vietnam & Korean (!) war eras. Quite moving. I made one of the quilts. I imagine this was a very belated recognition & thanks. #Quilting #QOV #quiltsky #MenWhoQuilt

Quilt update. All it needs now is the border, which will be the same as the sashing but wider. I wound up going to the craft store to get more of that fabric. They only had 0.75 yard plus a half-yard precut remaining. Lucky guy! I bought both. #quiltsky #quilting #MenWhoQuilt #QOV

I worked on the veterans' quilt again today. All of the star blocks are done now. I laid out a few on the sash fabric to decide how wide. I decided 1 1/2". I cut enough to sew 1/3 of the sashing today. The sashing is different from the background but still neutral. #quiltsky #MenWhoQuilt #QOV

A large quilt with a larger dark blue outer border and a narrower red inner border encasing scrappy red, white and blue diagonal stripes. My Vizsla dog is stretching in the lower right corner.

With the National Guard being such a hot topic, it's interesting that I just spent a day honoring three outstanding Air National Guard service members, one who retired after 23 years.

I made these two Quilts of Valor and also awarded a third created by the Western Montana QoV group.
