Wensum River at dusk with a stick. Fakenham, Norfolk, UK. The Wensum is one of 25 chalk rivers in Norfolk. The water is filtered through chalk aquifers, making for unique ecosystems.

Wensum glows at dusk,
Chalk waters weave across land,
Bearing sticks and ducks.

Never seen more Dace than in the Upper Wensum, tho' mainly smaller sizes.
Also lots fine Gudgeon. Fewer Roach.
Almost all the swirling schools of fish we saw, seemed in excellent health - just a diseased Chub.

With many thanks to @eelsaregood for the invitation, a glorious swim in the Upper Wensum, best prize the biggest Eel have ever seen - c1m. Also similar size Pike cruising the pool. Masses Perch. In shallows Minnows looking brassy in the fitful sunlight.

Delighted to find couple of plants of Flowering Rush (Butomus umbellatus) in the River Wensum upstream of Ringland.
Also Arrow-head flowering underwater & Amphibious Bistort above water.

The #RiverWensum upstream of #Ringland has one of the healthiest, most abundant & tame fish populations I've come across. Lovely lot of Dace (though saw no big ones). Also some Roach.

Never seen more Chub - of all size classes - than in the River Wensum upstream of Ringland.
Now realise it must be a thing for the two footers to congregate under the banks - including with a big Pike. Quite tame.
