Today’s ride on my Arabian mare Zil in the San Juan Mountains of #Colorado. The flowers were insane.

Delphinium. Five-petals, deep purple flowers in a raceme. Petals arranged like two arms, two legs and a pointy-hatted head. Little white parts in center look like a mustache!

Dusky penstemon. Deep maroon, almost black trumpet shaped flowers hang down from the stalk and open with petals kind of like a mouth.

Blue Columbine. This one’s not very dark. Five large triangular lavender petals behind five round white petals and a yellow center. Leaves are multi lobed. Lots of small green plants on the forest floor around it.

Death camas - Wand Lily, a raceme of small pale yellow flowers with six petals and a green ring around the stamens. Surrounded by greenery and evergreen trees in the background.
