Center right, a Carolina Chickadee is perched on a small branch of tree, facing left, looking right. These birds are very similar in size, shape and color to Black-capped Chickadees with their black caps, black bibs and white bellies and stark white cheeks. Where they differ is the Carolina has less white on wings and their territories rarely overlap. Though, where they do, hybridization does occur. Whenever I hear a Carolina Chickadee's call, they sound as if on speed... saying their "Chickadee dee dee" pattern at a much faster rate than their Black-capped cousins.

Bald Eagle left center frame, flying over causeway pool, with a duck in its talons. Unsure of which species of duck but presumed to be a Ruddy due to the large number found in same area.

Good afternoon, friends... home from SC and back to business as usual. Looking over photos and still smarting at this guy, who plucked a duck in front of me, but my lens was occupied elsewhere when it happened🤦‍♀️. At least I got the takeout. #birds 🪶🦉 #scbirding #naturephotograpy #wildlife 🦅🦆

Heading home in the early morning, long 12hr drive ahead of us. Enjoy this sleepy and annoyed, Black-crowned Night Heron who wondered if I didn't have something better to do with my life... #birds 🪶🦉 #scbirding #naturephotography #wildlife

Happy Saturday friends... last day at the beach 😢which means laundry and packing-then one more time at the park to walk and say goodbye to this beautiful area and its #birds If you look closely, this Brown Pelican appears to be wearing a crown. #scbirding #naturephotography #wildlife 🪶🦉

Pine warbler, center right of frame, sitting on birdbath its reflection on the water's surface. Pines are aptly named for living in pine forests. They are fairly large for warblers with a stout bill, yellow throat and yellow-olive face and back with blurry streaks down their sides.

Happy #FeatheredFriday friends... Last January I photographed a Pine Warbler in OH, after we believe the poor thing had been misplaced by bad weather. This January I captured another one, only now in their hometown. They are quite beautiful. #birds 🦉🪶 #scbirding #naturephotography #wildlife

Happy Thursday friends... Much colder here than anticipated, so will be staying indoors until the day warms up a bit more. Yesterday, I was excitedly happy to have seen a Yellow-throated Warbler at one of the park feeders. Who knew they liked suet? #birds 🪶🦉 #scbirding #naturephotography #wildlife

Male Green-winged teal center frame, surrounded by four females found in the brackish water of the entrance causeway at Huntington Beach State Park. Note the breeding male's chestnut colored face with green swath from eyes to the back of head. GW teals are small stocky ducks with green patches on their wings. In fact, they are the smallest dabbling duck in N America.

Happy Wednesday friends! Yesterday, we saw so many ducks close to shore, that in some instances, my long lens was too long. Not a bad problem to have really. We enjoyed these Green-winged Teals, too busy scrounging for food to pay attention to us. 🪶🦉 #birds #scbirding #naturephotography #wildlife

Three ducks, a female in the back and two males center and in the fore ground; on a pond. Hooded Mergansers are small ducks with thin bills, slender bodies and flamboyant, oversized heads. They remind me of football helmets.

Happy new week friends... Nice to be in SC this morning and even nicer to find a flock of Hooded Mergansers enjoying the pond. Even nicer, I had a chance to photograph them before the rain sets in. Have a terrific day all! #birds 🪶🦉 #scbirding #naturephotgraphy #wildlife #ducks

This year, I was fortunate to see 14Lifer #birds, 10 in NW Ohio 2 in South Carolina & 2 in Michigan. Lots of excitement (please be in focus-🙏) went into photographing them. First from SC, a Wilson's Plover and Black-bellied Whistling Duck. 🪶 #scbirding #naturephotography #wildlife
