Screenshot of a Shiny R app for displaying map data associated with a publication on climate change impacts on the Caspian Sea, running in a web browser. The app displays how sea level reductions in the Caspian Sea due to global warming will impact different ecological areas and human infrastructure. The app interface allows users to selection combinations of ecological areas, ports, settlements etc as well as predictions for bathymetric contours for different levels of water level reduction ranging from -2.5 m to -18 m against the 2010 datum coastline. The image shows various Ecologically and Biologically Significant areas (EBSAs - a designation under the Convention on Biological Diversity) shaded in red, plus locations of ports and offshore energy infrastructure, overlaid on the -10 m bathymetry scenario, revealling that areas in the north Caspian will be heavily impacted by the loss of water.
The Shiny web framework has amazing potential to support interactive data visualisations. We developed an app for users to explore a complex #GIS map dataset from our study on declining water levels in the Caspian Sea #Rstats #ShinyR chassall.shinyapps.io/CaspianShiny...
