After a busy March, I've finally gotten round to writing up my highlights from State of the Browser #SotB26

A few talks that stuck with me covering accessibility, personal growth, and the messy reality of time on the web.

good talk from @jason-williams.co.uk at #SotB26 2026.stateofthebrowser.com/speaker/jaso... about Temporal, the thing that will sweep Date.parse() out of our horrified memories and into the dustbin of history (finally, hooray)

I feel @jakearchibald.com introduction at #SotB26 may have been very different if he’d known about this

Just about recovered from the great time that was #SotB26. If anyone else fancies having me come deliver my talk, I’m very open to the idea.

Returned from @londonwebstandards.org’ State of the Browser #SotB26 feeling incredibly grateful. An urgent & evergreen reminder that building a community around inclusion, diversity, and the safety to speak hard truths even when they aren’t popular is so important — good people of the web, unite!

I've long been confused by the changing Lighthouse ("Core Web Vital") metrics - and they depreciated Time To Interactive (TTI) just as more and more sites and web apps started loading static sites that got "hydrated" with JS later.

At State of the Browser, @zachleat talked about the […]

I had an absolutely wonderful time at #SotB26 yesterday, meeting lots of friends I've seen before, for the first time, and making lots of new ones.

The community and people are delightful, the talks are stellar, and overall I have an absolute blast.

Much love to everyone who was there! ❤️❤️❤️

Look at all these lovely people. #SotB26 was excellent. Caught up with people I’ve known for two decades, met people I’ve known about for nearly as long, and cool new people who I’ll know from now on as well!

I was amused by the mention of this by @jason-williams.co.uk at #SotB26. But, despite the domain name, I didn’t realise just how wtf the date parsing rules in JS are. It’s borderline psychotic. I got 13/24 and count myself lucky it was that high. Roll on Temporal.

Wow, was not expecting the mention from my talk to have that much of an effect, sorry @samwho.dev 😂, yes this was from #SotB26, it’s a good resource!

Thoroughly enjoyed @zachleat.com talk at #SotB26 yesterday. Didn’t get a chance to say thank you for @11ty.dev , which we used to build a static archive of talk.galaxyzoo.org/boards/ when we turned off the old Rails API behind @zooniverse.bsky.social forums. Thousands of posts saved forever.

Feeling incredibly nourished and thankful after #SotB26.

I needed that.

I haven't posted in a while. Largely due to AI fatigue, and friends splintering off to different social networks.

But some folks at #SotB26 mentioned they miss Brody, and that just won't do.

Feeling so inspired and energised by the State of the Browser conference yesterday! 😁 The talks about accessibility, how web performance is also accessibility, and how Temporal will save us from JavaScript Date WTF moments, have got me thinking how I can prioritise these thing on my next project […]

I was too busy talking to lovely people to take any photos at State of the Browser or at the pub afterwards - an absolute pleasure, and I remain very grateful to be able to enjoy the company of these people who all have so much heart and soul.

What I love about our community is how much we respect each other and each other's work. At #SotB26 I had immediately friendly and interesting conversations with everyone. That's not a given.
