I watched the Soviet silent film #thegirlwiththehatbox and I was amazed with how many stereotypical 'romcom' tropes fit! It still had a lot of social and political commentary woven in but with meet cutes and shenanigans.

Last night I watched #aelitaqueenofmars which is considered the first Soviet SciFi film. It was really interesting with its combination of the 'sexy space woman' trope and Soviet revolution. I recommend checking it out!

I watched this late last night right before bed and it is beautiful, haunting, and devastating. The ending of this short film made me ugly cry. Soviet animation is soul crushingly emotional; some are heartwarming and others are pure existential dread.
