A week ago, the River Spey at Aviemore was crawling with #riverfly larvae: colonies of Bizarre Caddisfly (Lepidostomatidae) abounded, plenty Agapetus fuscipes caddisflies too. Glad not to be there when the Blackfly (Simuliidae) larvae hatch! #riverflies #speycatchment #spey 4/9

Fascinating also to meet my 1st spent Brook Lamprey - assume the white spots indicate the end is nigh for this ♂️, with his urogenital papilla, as is the post-spawning fate of all Brook Lampreys. #SpeyCatchment
