The River Spey, stretching from the Monadhliath Mountains to the Moray Firth.

Landscape photo of backlit scene, almost perfectly reflected in a very still section of the River Spey at Newtonmore. A tree on the riverbank obscures the low winter sun, its branches white with frost. Behind is a dark bank, covered with more bare trees, the sky is clear pastel blue, with only the slightest hint of clouds on the horizon

"He was different, abd Bobbie enough, and to her surprise she'd found she rather liked listening to him. When he'd noticed her, she had let him pick her up. He'd taken her home to his house by the distillery, and that evening Alison's life changed forever." #RiverSpey
We were on, rather than alongside, the #RiverSpey yesterday enjoying staying upright
Open cane with two paddlers on the river passing frost covered vegetation on the river bank.
Tad cool on the #RiverSpey today .... -8C
Abstract forms with bubbles and other shapes, formed in shallow ice between cobbles and pebbles on the banks of the River Spey. The tops of the stones are dry with warm tones, contrasting against the cold blue ice.
A similar view, but the ice has multiple levels, each frosted on the top, forming an opaque layer. The stones are bounded by darker ice, adding structure to the scene.

Absolutely gutted that the viaduct collapsed.
I cycled over it twice along the National Cycle Network Route 1.
It was a great experience.

Landscape photo of trees and clouds reflected in a still section of the River Spey. The scene is framed by trees and grass on the near bank, with a prominent tree on the opposite bank in the middle. The sky, and its reflection, is blue with little fluffy white clouds.

Guess where?
This bridge crosses a river famed for salmon and Speyside spirits.
A turreted surprise among the trees—seen from above.

How it started … and how it ended.
A day of two halves; a freezing, foggy start to the day, lingering through midday. This aft, the skies cleared and the golden light shone through the frost, clinging to every surface. A beautiful, beautiful day. -9 to -5.

I haven’t put one of these up for a while.
What a glorious day! The sun shone pretty well all day, but never got over the yardarm and the temperature didn’t get above freezing …

'What a difference a day makes' .....Flood plain in action on the #RiverSpey in the #Cairngorms 9th and 10th Oct '23.
The River Spey at Aviemore is a glorious swim - v. varied with shallow gravels, deep pools, eddies, fallen trees, sand banks - the flow often too fast to swim up without crossing to a slower patch - all cloaked in spring green last week. #riverspey #Aviemore #speycatchment 6/9
