The Tawny Mining Bee is a medium-sized bee, typically measuring between 10-14 mm in length. It has dense, tawny-orange hair covering its thorax. The abdomen features distinct dark bands separated by narrow whitish stripes. It has long black antennae.

This bee is sitting on the edge of the flower, it's body bent and it's head in the centre of the flower feeding on the nectar. It's wings are folded and the antennae are pointing forward and up.

A female tawny mining bee feeding on blackthorn blossom. The females are quite distinct from the males because of their bright orange-red fur.

Good morning โ˜•๏ธ

My first sighting and photograph this year of a tawny mining bee feeding on blackthorn blossom. The females are quite distinctive because of their bright orange red fur, so cute and fluffy! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿงก๐ŸŒฑโ™ฅ๏ธ

Tawny Mining Bees (Andrena fulva, male & female), Leeds UK. April 2025.

My first #solitarybee species sighting of the year! ๐Ÿงก We're very lucky to have an aggregation on a small green patch of campus. Look at his cute white moustache and her black velvety legs! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

An #Andrena fulva feeding on pollen and nectar of Ribes sp. in #Valais, #Switzerland. This species is a generalist that favours open forests but also parks and gardens. Nests are built in the ground up to 0.5 m deep.
