My math for either drunkard's path or half square triangle blocks, for a temperature quilt next year. I think if the finished quarter circle blocks are 3.5 or 3.75 inches square, it will give a finished quilt with 19 columns, 20 rows. To make them square, I would have to add a 20th column or stagger half circles / full circles somehow. I think it's fine to start another year's first 20 days or so. There are no rules for this.
I think this would be good for me mentally. Each day, note the temps, sew a block. Something to look forward to, and also something that builds up a tiny bit, every day, day by day, with no self-imposed pressure to complete the quilt. In fact, not possible to complete until the year has passed. Sort of a meditational moment, each day.
Another option - instead of starting the year Jan 1, maybe start with the Summer Solstice. That way I could start sooner.
Thinking....
I've seen lots of temperature quilt images, but not drunkard's path. So far.
A pillow sham that I made last year from shirting scraps (mostly) to practice drunkards path blocks. Coincidentally, these finished blocks are exactly the size that I want for the temperature quilt. About 3.5 to 3.75 inches. Completely different color scheme, however. The temperature quilt will be a prism of colors, probably from blue through teal, green, yellow, orange, red, purple.
Next step - set colors for each range of temperatures, and find the fabrics.
Meanwhile there are quilts to continue assembling.
Planning. I might make a temperature quilt in 2026. Designate a color for low & high ranges, make one square each day for a year. I think, drunkard's path blocks (vs. HST). Each completed circle would be 4 days. I did some math. See alt txt. #quiltsky #quilting #temperaturequilt
