This one is a pit with an opening to the ocean, allowing waves to move in quickly, and then shoot up out of the 'well'! Pictured is a wave ricocheting out of the pit in a big curl, and splashing back toward the ocean, much higher than the rocky terrain. The basalt in the foreground is covered in small live barnacles and larger mussels that must not be walked on. The ocean in the background has swells of waves coming toward the viewer, and a grey overcast sky above.

Located on the Oregon coast, this is a lava tube that collapsed right at the height of the surf. When the tide and swell are just right, it fills and drains with each wave.
