Daytime scene on a cloudy, but warm afternoon just before spring in a seafaring City, facing a section of the City's downtown Seaport neighborhood from a pier; running across the screen, a lavender-painted bridge hides its expressway traffic with the subtle and peaceful pastel color; surrounding the scene, large buildings- made mostly of brick - have been repurposed from shipping-related structures to high-end office and shopping spaces; in the background stands (arguably) the City's ugliest skyscraper building - the Verizon building; they spent a lot of money on a makeover and it is still ugly; in the distance, however, the peak of a Classical Revival landmark - the Thurgood Marshall Federal Court building - pokes out from the shorter buildings around it; there is a long, green, plywood construction wall in the foreground; I can't remember what they are actually building there (hopefully a park), but the safety wall has become a canvas for the City's graffiti writers and features several large-scale throw-ups.

The legal system can force open doors, and sometimes even knock down walls, but it cannot build bridges. That job belongs to you and me. The country can't do it …. We can run from each other, but we cannot escape each other. We will only attain freedom if we learn to appreciate what is different, and muster the courage to discover what is fundamentally the same.

Just watched the new Thurgood Marshall documentary on PBS Passport and it's an eye-opener.

It's exactly what this administration doesn’t want us to know, and a good reminder of why supporting PBS is more vital than ever. #PBS #ThurgoodMarshall
