Today, I began the last movement of #tombeau, entitled #bluesforfrank. I began writing this suite in after my uncle’s sudden death last year. He was an amateur blues musician, and so I felt it was fitting to end this work—a deep dive into composing with hexachords—by using the blues scale.

The medial repeat and change of tonal center in the #allemande from #tombeau. Decided to stop worrying about using Jacquet de La Guerre’s in D minor as a model and lean into it instead; stronger differentiation will be a later step and that’s OK.
Last night’s proof of being human:
Got over the initial hump by re-writing the opening of the #allemande from #tombeau for a third time and realizing that all the place I was stuck at needed was an extra eighth note in the meter. Who knew? 🤷♂️
