From a great year, this #Volnay 1er cru underwhelms. Good fruit, bright cherry, but finishes a bit short. Not overly complex but well made. Expected more. #Burgundy #Pinot #wine

Charles Père & Fille Volnay Clos de la Cave 2019, Burgundy, France Pale ruby in color with medium intensity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Showing raspberries, cherries, red currants, earth, red candy, spices, light oak, licorice and chocolates. This is a delicious Pinot Noir from Burgundy. Elegant and fruity. Smooth and soft. Nicely balanced and drinks fairly young, for a 6-year-old Pinot. Modern in style, and feels like a Russian River Valley Pinot. So interesting. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Good by itself as a sipping wine. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $43.
