As a resident of the single red spot along the central California coast, I'm not complaining. No frost, some rain (we'd like more) and comfortable temps. However, I question the accuracy of the model as we frequently have 2-3 months in spring with overcast skies and dense fog. Again, not complaining

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ABCD. This black skimmer fits I think. When I have the opportunity to photograph these beauties, I make as many images as I can while they do their fishing. #photography #wildlife #ECK #bird #BirdsInFlight #Nikon #Z8 #NaturePhotography #Floida

Monty & Melissa Mallard out for an evening stroll, only to be confronted by the paparazzi. On seeing the cameras Monty led Melissa into the bushes.... Not for what you're thinking though, it was just to hide away.

Captured at Summer Leys Nature Reserve.

Gabby Gadwall was standing on the log after taking a bath, she had a shake off then started her arduous preening routine... Yes even female ducks take their time getting ready for a night out.

Ruby Ruddy Shelduck had just got out of the water, and was heading for shelter behind the mound of weeds. She needed some alone time after a night out with Gabby Gadwall, she said never again after that session but we all know she doesn't mean it.

Tina Tufted Ducks was sat all alone pondering as to why Gabby Gadwall & Ruby Ruddy Shelduck didn't invite her out the night before. So she was feeling sorry for herself so I told her to get a grip, before she waddled off muttering to herself.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #DucksOutOfWater, any Duck that is out of the water but NOT FLYING. The Alt Theme is #Finches, any Finch will do.

As I recall, this type of thing didn't happen until Trump attacked Iran and then demanded unconditional surrender. Anyone who didn't see the Iranians using the Strait of Hormuz as leverage has absolutely no business advising the President.

The image has multiple tangled, dwarf oak trees with vines and poison oak covering the ground around them. One tree in the foreground frames the image, and as we look through the frame, we see all the tangled trees and vines. El Moro Elfin Forest (just called Elfin Forest) in Los Osos/Morro Bay, California. The trees are all very old, but never grew upwards much. Instead they branched out to the sides.

Worse than that, they are cannibalistic. They will eat other dead squirrels. I've seen this many times on a ranch in Cali where I grew up.

Excellent shot and story. I'm wondering if Wendy Wren was yelling at Geoffrey Go-Away Bird?

The banner for Forest Friday has a background image of fern fronds in varying shades of green. The text says, "It is #ForestFriday. A weekly celebration of the outdoors & nature. If you are so inclined, post your forest-related photographs or artwork with the hashtag #ForestFriday. Happy trails, my friends."

It is #ForestFriday.

Hopefully Bluesky is working. (Can you hear me now? 😁)

Let's celebrate forests, the outdoors and nature by sharing forest-related photos or artwork under the Forest Friday hashtag.

More importantly, 'Doctored' by whom? That's Trump's social media account on his social media platform. If the image was, indeed, 'Doctored', there must be some evidence as to who did it? Also, how long was the non-doctored image up before it was altered? What did the original image look like?

Today's theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #HeadShots. Here's a Yellow Hornbill from #Zimbabwe. Locals refer to this bird as a 'flying banana' or 'Zazu Bird' (from the movie Lion King). #birds #BirdPhotography #Africa

I couldn't agree more. Of course, as a retired Meteorology instructor, I have to admit, I'm biased.

While I applaud this apparent milestone, I do offer a cautionary note. March 2026 was one of the warmest on record. This means less gas use for heating and more sunshine for solar power generation. That said, I wholeheartedly support the move to renewable power generation. No wars over green energy.

Very likely part of the long standing desire by conservatives to privatize the NWS.

Not only do Trump’s recent posts reflect poorly on the office of the President, they call into question whether he has the mental faculties necessary to be in charge of the nuclear codes.

While I completely agree with George's description of Trump, I'd like to offer a different interpretation of the results of Trump's actions. Interest in, and purchase of EV's is on the rise in many places around the world. People are realizing that non-renewable energy is more reliable than oil.
