A triple-threat! Three new Ear-pick fungi sprout from an old Ear-pick fungus sprouting the more typical way from a Douglas fir cone. Another shriveled up sibling fungi lilts a bit to the right all shriveled and far less cool without anything sprouting from their noggin. Note that the 3x have a couple of other knots attempting to become fruiting body. The older fungi are a dark brown with the one sprouting children out of their head still presenting a few teeth sticking out from under their cap. The 3x younger ones have a reddish brown stem with a lighter colored tan cap. A composite of 36 pictures were focus stacked to generate this single image.

Love this black and red lanternfly. Gives Darth Maul vibes. If anyone has any idea for an ID on this guy, please let me know. I feel like itโ€™s from the genus Aphaena but none fit the description closely.

An illustration of a banana slug holding a red mug with white spots underneath a matching red and white spotted fly agaric mushroom. The slug is drinking green tea. They are yellow with brown spots. The mushroom and slug are on some green moss, with green handwritten text underneath that reads โ€œEmbrace Cozinessโ€ in all uppercase. The background is a vibrant light blue.

White leafhopper - Pagaronia triunata. A very old photo of mine, probably one of the first photos I took that I was pretty excited about at the time.

A leaf is colonized by a fungus that divides it into irregularly-shaped light-colored regions, with thin black boundary lines between. There are dark spots within some of the regions. The whole thing looks uncannily like an old paper map.

Good question, if you find out please let me know ๐Ÿ˜… keeping it simple with just #planthopper but that doesnโ€™t include froghoppers, lanternflies, or cicadas. All of which I feel should go under a similar hash tag if possible. #auchenorrhyncha doesnโ€™t roll off the tongue well but itโ€™s most accurate.

I believe it is a type of huntsman. According to iNat and some friends, itโ€™s a Heteropoda Boiei. However, I have my suspicions, with DNA sequencing. That species will eventually get broken up into multiple others. From what I have seen, there is just too much variation for them to all be boiei.
