Light pink petals, yellow stamen with bright orange center. Open flowers lie flat and face upward toward the sun. Blooms from top Al the way to the ground. Each plant is 9 feet high and 5 feet wide.

Spring flowers in the Pacific NW. What’s blooming in my garden this week: Nootka Rose (Rosa nutkana) More my style than other roses: native / no maintenance - plus great for the pollinators & food for birds. #findjoy #artyear #bloomscrolling #PNW #gardening #MayBlooms #spring #flowers #gardens #rose

Who's ready to follow this path wherever it might lead? πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ You'd be on your way to stunning views at Cape Flattery in Washington state, US, the northwestern point in the lower 48 states.

Studies point to redlining as a 'perfect storm' for breast cancer - University at Buffalo β€œWhile redlining was outlawed long ago, that doesn’t mean the pathways it helped establish are gone. ” BUFFALO, N.Y. – In neighborhoods across America, women face a daunting threat from a federal practice that, although it was outlawed decades ago,...

gracias to the village
the aunties, godmamas,
next-door saints
who never stop loving
on birthdays,
on breakdowns,
on every in-between.

you held us
when life got heavy,
raised us
even when we weren’t yours

happy mother’s day
to the women who built us
with grace,
with grit,
with love that don’t quit

Thank you.

I think the real solution to most of our big & shared global problems: Put the phone down, & love on your neighbor, whenever or however you can, within your means, small simple acts, *as if all life on earth depended upon that one moment* bc collectively it does, all the time, everywhere.πŸ•ŠοΈβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

a haphazardly wrapped bouquet composed of a base of 6 thick & dark purple lilac blooms with a few green leaves on their stems, mid of 6-7 tall orange & yellow marigolds, & 2 tall sprays of spiked, purple-y blue borage flowers. wrapped in paper tied with green garden twine, then a plastic bag, sitting in an ancient revere ware copper bottom 1 qt pot, on a weathered light green painted picnic table.

like the pharmacist who is sending a willing employee out to my home because they messed up my Rx door dash delivery by sending the wrong bottle of pills. I’m so grateful that she offered to do this, that I crawled out of my crash bed & snipped the best I could manage for a thank you.

I assume that this probably applies to most of us: Our world is so πŸ’© & hard right now, that the only thing truly keeping me going, is small, random acts of kindness, community, & support, from individuals.

Let’s scale this up, because practicing small acts is achievable by everyone.

We absolutely must stop logging mature forests in Western Washington & the Olympic Peninsula. These are some of the last refuges of our local biodiversity & protect our waters/prevent landslides. Thank you to the protestors working to protect this forest.

wooden rake is light too. I can do a little work at a time. it’s kind of ironic to me that i’m too disabled to use a string trimmer but not a scythe. my scythe & hand tools make keeping this place accessible to me with my disabilities. πŸ’š

the light ash wood snath (handle) of the scythe is adjusted to meet my body & anatomy. custom fit. the movement is like gentle tai chi. no high impact effort when the blade is sharp & your body mechanics are correct. no machine vibrations that trash my wrists. no straining.

I can keep up w/keeping many things trimmed on a shoestring budget after investment in the tool.
There is no string trimmer or brush hog I can operate w/o aggravating my back injury or joints. I would use the machines & need days or more to recover, or end up benched w/an injury

landscape of recently cut grass with a scythe. 4 passes cut made two windrows of cut grass. the grass has been cut & there are two parallel windrows where the cut grass has been raked to dry or mulch. in the foreground on the grass are the two tools: a modern austrian scythe with a lightweight ash wood snath & adjustable handles, & an about 70cm mong long & light steel grass blade attached that is specially forged in austria in a 500 year old factory. it’s crossed, on the ground by a light wooden rake with wide wooden teeth for raking cut grass. in the background is a green metal rolling cart holding the few tools you need in the field with the scytheβ€”whetstones/holdersβ€” +snips, water for me & the whetstones, & a bucket needed while in the field

besides eco & nurturing biodiversity reasons, my use of a scythe came about by being too poor to hire landscapers & needing a disability accessibility tool to cut things that didn’t hurt my body w/its injuries & vulnerabilities to repetitive stress injuries.
