For #worldcurlewday
Curlews over Pentre Ifan.
The haunting cry of this bird always feels to be a call from another land and when heard time always falls away and one is filled with melancholy and joy in equal measure.
Do support @curlewaction who work tirelessly to save this bird.

CURLEW IS HOPEFUL FOR A WILDER WORLD, SOMEWHERE SHE
FEELS SAFE TO REST.
WHERE THE WIND BLOWS, GRASS WILL SHELTER HER, AS SHE SEARCHES FOR HER QUIET NEST.
CURLEW IS HOPEFUL FOR A WILDER WORLD.
HEATHLAND, MOORLAND, MARSH, OR DUNE.
SHE WADES, SHE SINGS, AND STILL SHE TRUSTS
THAT A WILDER WORLD
WILL FIND HER SOON.

It’s World Curlew Day 🤍
A perfect moment to celebrate one of our most iconic beauties (and one of our most rapidly declining breeding bird species).

10 years ago, Mary Colwell started a 500 mile walk across Ireland & UK in support of Curlews.
"I liked something about the way Curlew lived in the world, sang to the world, and drifted through the world with a light touch."

March is prime time to check for Marsh Tit territories in likely woods. On calm mornings walk route through/around wood that covers all parts within ~100m. 2 visits. Stop every 50-100m to playback calls/songs on phone at full vol for few mins. Wait for response, if present they sing back. #ukbirding

Each year, around this time, we strain to hear our first curlew of spring. This afternoon, during a lull in the rain, it finally came. In the words of W.S. Graham, we are 'under the curlew's loveweep.'
