Nightingale calling on my site for the first time this year. They seem to return to exactly the same spot each year. Such a highlight of spring.
You have to have the sound on for this!
Went to see the American Bittern again last night near Cork. Photo is the best I could come up with as dusk and dawn are really the only times it makes a show.

First time I have ever got close to an Orange Underwing on the deck, still had to do Binocs/phone video to get close!…was quickly hoovered up by a Robin…. Maybe that’s why they never seem to stop flying! Few in flight around woodyard at #LadywalkNR #teammoth @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

Nice comparison of wheatear ‘types’ this AM at Greenlands Farm, Studland with both nominate Northern Wheatear (left) and Greenland sub species (right) feeding next to one another @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social
Feeling far more Spring-like today - an ideal opportunity to advertise the Spring edition of the West Midlands All-day Birdwaching taking place this year on Saturday 2nd May.
Usual format - record as many species as you can on your patch in 24 hours.

This is a really great listen. As well as being very thought provoking, I learnt a lot of new information. Graham is a fantastic advocate for farming, conservation and the countryside.
Cracker
Not always easy to get a Wheatear on my 3k patch, so pleased to catch up with one early in the year.
A @moocher.bsky.social find earlier today at #LadywalkNR on the shoreline we cleared in Autumn.
Also added LRP for #PWC2026
I think this is about as good a start to April that I could’ve ever imagined!
White-spotted Bluethroat ringed at Skagen. Only the second spring male to ever be caught here!
🦇As the weather gets warmer, brown long-eared bats will start shedding their ear muffs which protects their fragile ears from the cold during hibernation.
If you find these on the floor in your local area, you are in luck - brown long-eared bats are around! 🥰
