Some days, Im just happy with my boardwork. Yesterday, my 10s did a cracking job at vectors with ratio, purely looking at a single line. Today embed and apply.

#Mathstoday hitting something I am not a fan of teaching... intro to angles in parallel lines. Today's attempt... identify all the obtuse and acute. Then give the two rules and see if they can work out which is which by exploring the words definitions (tier 2 vocab - I think)

#mathstoday my SEN year 7 group are on to algebra. So to practice collecting our like terms we are doing expanding brackets as repeated addition! Some moved on to generalising and using multiplication.
I got 2 lessons out of this. 1 hour just exploring, lots of chat and mwb nothing in books. 2nd lesson giving them time to apply and adapt - I didnt explain the consecutive numbers but a lot of them got there on their own!
I've been trying to find time for ages. Honestly so glad I did. Need to upgrade my patreon fee to a department one and share the love
This is Mathsbot. Its part of curriculum if you become a patreon
In #Mathstoday I had some time to do problem solving with Prime Factorisation with my 7set1. The conversations and the collaboration were excellent.
๐จ Giveaway! ๐ 5 copies of my new book Questioning for Teaching & Learning. ๐ก To enter repost this post! ๐ Winners announced Monday 5th January 2026 at 6 pm UK time. Happy new year all. Here's to a healthy & happy 2026!
A few of my lessons this week just now happen to be co-ordinates
Enumeration conundrum: what is the reduction of combinations due to the number of constraints in the world cup draw, compared to 8 seeded and 40 randomly drawn countries. Feel the "random" draw isnt so random...
Forgot my win of the week. We've moved from numicon to number lines. Learning to find remainders in preparation for us to do bus stop division. #Maths #Pictoral
A photo taken by my colleague using the standard form buttons. I must say it is slightly disappointing. #Maths #CasioCalculators #dontfixwhatsnotbroke
Based on MathsConf 37(?) Circle theorems with 3 for students to trace and focus. Thanks @draustinmaths.com for making the practice grids so I can adapt it to this. Hopefully will build my year 10s confidence well.
Had to give this kid props on his unit test. The layout is a DREAM!!
Mocks upcoming and decided that I am going to create a bank of excellent exam technique to display to the class as part of feedback.
Little win of the week. Number lines to help my low-ability 8s to round to the nearest integer. The lad of this book was so proud!
#mathsconf39 tomorrow in London. Rather excited to be back and learning! Will also be bringing a newbie and meeting up with old friends.
Just a shame to miss the first 5 mins of the assembly! ๐ฌ
Help Needed!!
I've been tasked with enhancing our statistics GCSE. However my pedagogical knowledge for it is a bit weaker.
Has anyone got good sources for reading that will help?

Year 8 looked at Square numbers and used them to problem solve sums.
First lesson with my new SEN Y7 group. I and they loved talking about what numbers look like and how we can see them in groups. Even got to numicon and 1 more and 1 less.
1 kid even told me they learned something new. Love a teacher win!
Phew! First year teaching stats in a year and 100% 7+! Now to get my 2 year students to the same level ๐ช
And my 4th year completed... stats suggest I should quit this time next year ๐. I've taught stats and RS for the first time, been given new challenges to keep me entertained. Now time to pretend to enjoy the time off as all structure from my life ends.
Excellent day at #mathsconf38. Lots of new ideas that I now wouldn't mind adapting and seeing in action! Looking forward to London (might treat myself to a weekend away!)
Look forward to #mathsconf38 tomorrow. 5:30 start to make the day trip to Dudley. Always an excellent event!
Am looking for some Statistics comprehension extracts to use with my 2-year stats group.
I want to create a focus on literacy to prepare them better ahead of GCSEs. Any pointers?
I think trig and ratio tables is brilliant. The confusion around if they need to x or รท seemed massively reduced.
Geoboards today with my SEN year 7 group. Make and sketch, pentagons, hexagons and quadrilaterals. After exploring squares and rectangles.
Following on from #mathsconf37, I used cuessinare rods to model why multiplying fractions works. This is a couple of my students recordings of my modelling!
Today I teach one of my favourite lessons - what is a half? It's a shame I have to wait until lesson 5
