I made two garter stitch very basic hats when I was reteaching myself how to knit a few years ago. Then, later, after many pairs of socks I made a knitted shawl. The sections between the decorative shells are garter stitched.

I bought this #yarn at a #thrift shop. Made the #hat first then created a matching #cowl.

Cut a slice from an old nylon stocking.

Put the nylon tube around your yarn cake.

Stretch the nylon tube to cover the yarn cake sides.

Tidy yarn cake!

I’m kind of excited about my solution to slippery #acrylic #yarn cakes coming apart. I cut a 2-3” slice off old #nylon stockings then stretched the slice around the #yarncake. I stretched it to cover the sides and go slightly over the ends. I center pull so I think this will keep everything tidy.
