Lovely! Didn’t know about the hawk moth connection, thanks.
I love that it doesn’t sound how it looks!

Turquoise sea, with grey rocks
Dark rocks white sand and turquoise sea
Pink sea thrift flowers and gold lichen on rocks
Patterns on the white sand with red rocks and black seaweed
Port Ban beach on Iona is very beautiful and there was no one else there, so lucky with the weather.
The sea thrift was just coming out and saw gannets diving in the sea from the ferry.
Last day in #MullandIona - shall be sad to leave this wonderful place.

Green and turquoise sea and white sand
Sand dunes and the curve of a bay with dark turquoise sea
Columbas church with rocky hill behind
Visited Iona for the first time today. Such a gorgeous, peaceful place and it felt a long way from the violence and irrationality happening in the world.
Skylarks singing over the machair, oystercatchers calling over the sea.

Golden eagles are occasionally seen in areas such as Northumberland, crossing from southern Scotland where there is a growing population of the birds. Forestry England found that England now has the capacity to sustain golden eagle populations once again.

Seaweed and a whimbrel foraging
Just arrived on the Isle of Mull - what a beautiful island!
Already seen a red squirrel crossing a road, a lapwing, a buzzard close up and think this is a whimbrel fishing in the bay opposite the cottage.

In new guidance, the #RSPB is advising people to “feed safely and feed seasonally” by removing all bird feeders filled with seeds and peanuts and instead offering small amounts of protein such as mealworms, fat balls or suet from 1 May to 31 October.

🦇 Why bats matter to gardens?
Gardens that welcome bats are spaces with plenty of food, water and shelter. And these spaces are good for people too — improving health, wellbeing and connection to the natural world.

Crow amongst marsh marigolds
The crows had just started nesting again in our garden but two days ago the female was injured (not sure how but it fell heavily on the conservatory roof). She flew off before we could get help from the wildlife rescue & now they have abandoned the nest which is sad. Such brilliant birds. 😢 #corvids
polluting our waters & harming wildlife. The government urgently needs to commit to phase out – & ultimately ban – glyphosate & support farmers & local councils to adopt safe & sustainable alternatives. Otherwise, we will all continue to pay the price.” Nick Mole, Policy Officer, PAN UK

is leading to a whole host of problems, yet we continue to spray it on the food we eat & places where our children play.
We know that glyphosate has links to a range of cancers & other life-threatening diseases. And that it is leading to a whole host of problems, damages the environment,

“Today’s figures reveal that the UK’s glyphosate addiction has spiralled out of control. Our overuse of this toxic chemical 🧵

Really wonderful news!
The pine marten was photographed completely by chance on a camera set up to monitor reintroduced water voles.
It's been 100 years since pine martens were last seen in Cornwall.

The goal over several years is to plant millions of seeds collected from the remaining healthy meadows. One volunteer is Annabelle Campbell-Priest, 12, who is meticulously squirting the seeds into marked plots using a caulking gun & recycled sealant tubes.
“The washing machine breaks, they get a parking ticket, or their hours get cut at work, and the whole house of cards collapses. There’s nothing left to cut back on to make the budget add up. “Luxuries” were cut out a long time ago.”
