Trapped last night, despite the cool weather, with predictable results 5/3. #fomo

Noticed this rolled Hawthorn leaf yesterday, in the Brecks, but I’m at a loss to know what has caused it. Any ideas #teammoth folks? Seemed to have an orange and black ringed larval head poking out of the bottom.

Had breakfast watching one Peregrine on the church, had dinner watching two. It’s a nice job if you can get it.

Adela reaumurella (Green Longhorn)

Adela reaumurella (Green Longhorn)

Went looking for Pammene agnotana with my FUN lure this afternoon. The first record for Suffolk was only last week, and this weekend for VC26. However they didn’t want to play ball for me.

I did find a new Moth, in fact many of them. Adela reaumurella (Green Longhorn) around Gorse. #teammoth

Cydia ulicetana (Common Gorse Moth)

Set out to look for Grasshopper Warbler & Green Hairstreak at Cavenham. Scored on the first but couldn’t find the second.

All that looking a Gorse paid off though. Found a new for me Cydia ulicetana (Common Gorse Moth). Way too frisky to photograph out of the pot sadly. #teammoth

I’m fairly happy with this as Coleophora serratella (Common Case-bearer) on Birch at Cavenham. If so, it’s new for me.

Just 10/5 this morning. I nearly didn’t trap, but it was worth it for this new for year #56 Pale Mottled Willow.

Lunar Marbled Brown

Just 16/7 this morning, but NFG #54 Swallow Prominent was nice to see, as was, though a bit dishevelled, NFG #55 Lunar Marbled Brown, which is also new for the tetrad. 🔲

A Brindled Beauty in the FUN lure was unexpected.

Shuttle-shaped Dart.

Shuttle-shaped Dart.

There were Moths today, oh yes. Wasn’t sure what I was looking at, at first, until I saw the darts.

#51 Shuttle-shaped Dart was first up out of the #teammoth trap this morning.

I drove 100 miles for it too. I barely even look at them out of the bathroom window now. 😂

2CY Ross’s Gull at Thornham.

My 5th Ross’s Gull, but first in 20 years, and first in this 2CY plumage. Heat haze and distance a bit of a hindrance, but well pleased to have connected.

42 years of hurt gone. 😅 After a tragically wrong call back in 1984 (Having already seen 2 Ross’s Gulls in Britain I twitched a Little Egret for a lifer instead) I finally have got Ross’s Gull in Norfolk.

✅ #400. (Again, after last years lump-fest)

I didn’t have that on my bingo card for this morning. A low level pass by four #77 Crossbill! April is a new month for them too.

Brindled Beauty in the living room today.

After ‘Beautiful Plume-gate,’ when Mrs. Prof suppressed a lifer in the bedroom for 3 days! She has since received further training, and today discovered a Brindled Beauty in the living room, though slightly past its sell-by date. #teammoth

Lunar Marbled Brown was probably my Moth of the morning from Lakenheath. @rspb.bsky.social

Head-scratcher of the morning for me was this Early Tooth-striped.

Underwhelming #teammoth of the day was this possible Mottled Orache Miner (Scrobipalpa atriplicella) which sadly needs gen. det. to be sure

Emperor Moth. Just wow! 🤩

Emperor Moth. Just wow! 🤩

Another very worn Early Oak Gall Moth came to the FUN lure and, I finally managed a shot of one of the three Emperors in the garden that came to EMP lure. 🤗 Boy they are fast!

Also NFM/NFG #50 Nettle-tap (Anthophila fabriciana) came to EMP sat on a leaf, but didn’t linger for a photo. 😢

I do still look at birds. 😉 A pair of Garganey on Hockwold Wash this morning were new, and an Oystercatcher over the garden this afternoon as I played with my lures.
