There's a bit-of-a-debate as to whether the 'intruding' juv Peregrine at Cromer church yesterday was a hybrid. Luckily neither of the resident Peregrines spotted it. Any thoughts welcome! Here's some not-brilliant footage! #Peregrines @rspb.bsky.social

It's been a good Spring so far on my local patch of inland NE Norfolk. A 2CY Peregrine, Cetti's Warblers establishing, first record of Great White Egret and after missing out the past few years, Ring Ouzels! 4 different birds all feeding on a potato field #norfolkbirding @nenbc.bsky.social
An 'intruding' juv was the highlight of the CPP watchpoint today. Not ringed so we know it wasn't one of the resident pair's previous juvs as they are all ringed. First egg should hatch c23rd April. We've had more 'intruding' Peregrines than previous years. @nenbc.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social
Watch this! Superb Norfolk Wildlife Trust nestcam showing ospreys nesting at Ranworth. Last summer they were the first osprey to fledge chicks in East Anglia for hundreds of years. There's some fabulous action right now, male eating fish, female asking for some! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bevw...
A female Blackcap peering around a tree, she was being courted by two male Blackcaps who were in full song. One of the males was perched high in the woodland canopy.
Wheatears have migrated from sub-Saharan Africa and have been arriving along the coast for several days and are now moving inland. This is one of seven seen in a local field.
Jay in the woodland gathering nesting material by snapping off twigs from an Oak tree and flying off.
It dawned on me today that another thing I really like about Spring Migrants is they usually offer double the value. Not only are most visually beautiful, they usually have gorgeous voices too! Don’t you find the call of a Whimbrel taking off sends tingles down your spine? #NorfolkBirding
Great to see the Norfolk Black-winged Kite at Sea Palling this morning. It's getting closer to my Waxham patch! #NorfolkBirding #UKBirding
Another cracking if blowy day at Happisburgh from dawn: vis mig low key but todays highlights: male Ring Ouzel, 3 Yellow Wag, 15 Wheatear, 2 House Martin & c40 Swallow north, Whimbrel & Green Sand south, 1 Golden Plover (+ Painted Lady). Best of all PATCH GOLD with a sp Little Grebe on the sea!!
A map showing the migration of Cuckoo Arthur from the UK to Africa and back again is shown, with his current location in Suffolk. A headshot of Cuckoo Arthur features, alongside the wording: He’s made it to the UK! After arriving in Spain, Arthur headed across the Bay of Biscay and into France. Then he powered on, eventually crossed London overnight, and headed straight for Suffolk.
Where are the BTO Cuckoos? 🌍 One has touched down in the UK, another arrived but returned to France and the rest of our tagged birds are on their way!

(1/) According to the 2025 BBS Report, finches are fluctuating in England. The fortunes of 3 familiar species that regularly visit gardens, Greenfinch, Chaffinch & Goldfinch are changing. @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspbscience.bsky.social #Ornithology #CitizenScience

Song Thrush taking a worm to its young in a nest located in the Ivy covering an Oak tree. Spring has arrived.
A Robin perched on a branch, its beak full of food and other material.
To reduce disease, we all need to make some urgent but simple changes to how we feed our garden birds.

A good day at Malin Mansions with the first pair of House Martin settling in and carrying out running repairs on last years nest. We normally have two pairs, sometimes three, so fingers crossed 🤞 (disclaimer - not really a mansion but it sounded better) @ukhousemartins.bsky.social
Local fields have been planted with potatoes and this Skylark was strutting along the near-perfect row top.
House Sparrow has once again emerged as the UK's most recorded garden bird, according to results from the 2026 Big Garden Birdwatch:
#AllBirdsMatter. Who needs rarities when you can just watch a 'common' bird? Check out this absolutely stunning female Blackcap on my patch first thing. So I dipped on the Redstart? Honestly I don't mind! @nenbc.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social
I do like Bacton Woods. Small groups of Siskin and a very vocal Marsh Tit…
Cracking find today with 2 White Storks high south over Happisburgh at 10.10. Got the news out quickly and they were tracked through at least 12 sites in east Norfolk and north east Suffolk showing the value of local WhatsApp groups (sorry @russmalin.bsky.social was about 30 mins after I saw you ☹️)
The RSPB has urged the public to take simple steps to protect ground-nesting birds during the spring and summer breeding season, as increased recreational activity risks disturbing vulnerable species:
Yellowhammer in the local hedgerow, at one time a regular garden visitor; the Goldfinch, on the other hand, still visits regularly. Green Alkanet starting to bloom but yet to see any pollinators on the flowers. There are still Daffodils in flower on the roadside verge.
A little blustery this afternoon at Happisburgh and was hoping for a Wheatear or Ring Ouzel migrant wise but had to settle for a couple of Chiffchaff which arguably could have been here all winter. Will see what tomorrow brings. If the earlier White Storks made it this far I didn’t see them…
Jackdaw spent some time in the garden this afternoon which is unusual as they normally just fly over it.
Not very productive at Happisburgh this morning with Peregrine the highlight. Insane amount of Greenfinch on the caravan park. Don’t recall ever seeing so many. Nice to bump into @yarevalleyjus.bsky.social who was having about as good a visit as me!
Saw a rare bird and haven't yet submitted to the BBRC?
We still have outstanding records that do not yet have submissions including:
- Scops Owl, Gower
- Black-browed Albatross, Norfolk
And many others on the Missing Records List:

Monitoring Sculthorpe Moor yesterday resulted in 20 birds, the first Blackcap, plus 5 Chiffchaff, 2 from pervious years, which are more important than new birds, enabling monitoring survival and site faithfulness, and 2 new Cetti's Warblers. @norfolknats.bsky.social @hawkandowl.bsky.social

Mute Swan in early morning light and a little later storming off across the water to chase a goose away from the lake. Last two pictures show a swan drinking.
Today we welcome the nimble Common Sandpiper to our #SpringArrivalSpotlight!
Known for its 'teetering' and distinctive flight, look for a small wader with contrasting brown and white plumage.
PS - listen out for its three-note whistle as it flies!
